Necessary tools
The structural parts of any sofa are connected with bolts, nuts, and fasteners. To disassemble most models, a simple open-end wrench with a diameter of Ø10, 12, 14 is enough. Some models are assembled using fasteners that can only be disassembled with a special tool. In this case, it is better to entrust the disassembly to a specialist, otherwise the frame or upholstery can be damaged with an unsuitable tool.
Often the fasteners are hidden under the upholstery, so you will need pliers and a flat-head screwdriver to pry the staples or pull out the nails. But attaching the upholstery back will be problematic if you do not have a construction stapler.
How to disassemble a sofa bed
- The classic design is quite simple: the seat slides out and the backrest is placed in its place, creating a sleeping area. Models may have side panels. A modified form is the Eurobook, in which the base is a drawer for storing linen.
- To disassemble, you need to lift the seat and inspect the inside of the sofa. The fasteners may be visible or hidden under the upholstery. If the second option is found, you will have to detach the upholstery and then reattach it after assembly.
- First, the side panels are disconnected, if there are any.
- Then the seat fastener is unscrewed, and lastly the backrest is removed.
- In a Eurobook, the seat and back are a single mechanism; only the roll-out mechanism can be detached.
How to disassemble a corner sofa
As a rule, a corner sofa consists of two sleeping places, which are attached to the corner element. One element is smaller, the second, main one is larger in size. There is another option when the blocks have a sofa located perpendicularly. The backs and seats can be in the form of separate pillows, or they can make up a single non-separable block. Many models are equipped with a linen box in the short part of the sofa.
- First, you need to disassemble the side panels, if there are any. They can be attached inside or connected with a tightening strip on the back of the sofa. Also, depending on the model, the short part can be attached to the long one or the short and long parts are attached to the corner element. This will be visible when inspecting the inside.
- Having disconnected the short part, you need to remove the seat and backrest from it.
- The main part of the corner sofa is disassembled depending on the transformation mechanism. As a rule, it is a single block of a seat and a back, so only the linen box is detached. The corner element can be solid.
Transportation rules
All disassembled parts must be packed, corrugated cardboard, stretch film, any waterproof materials are used for protection. Each element is packed separately, the sides are connected in pairs, everything is wrapped in film, secured with tape. Wooden parts need to be protected with corrugated cardboard. These measures will help protect the sofa from damage, dirt, getting wet, deformation during transportation. It is easy to disassemble the sofa, and in order to assemble it just as easily, it is advisable to put bolts, nuts in separate bags and sign which part they were removed from.
