We adjust furniture hinges with our own hands
Adjusting furniture hinges yourself, without the help of professionals, is not difficult. You should follow certain rules, compliance with which will prevent the formation of cracks on the facade, gaps between the frame and doors, as well as friction when opening. That is, the service life of the cabinet is extended.
Four laws of loop adjustment
Before adjusting, study the rules in this area:
- Before starting to adjust the furniture hinges, the vertical distances are aligned according to the height of the door, and then adjusted according to the setting. If you apply the algorithm of actions, it will be much faster and easier to repair the hinges, since you will not have to go back.
- When adjusting the furniture hinges, make sure that the cabinet is precisely level in all projections. Use a special building level to adjust the furniture position.
- The desired level is sometimes impossible to achieve. In such a situation, the distances between the doors are used as a guide. If the cabinet is overloaded, then the gaps will be larger than with a precise arrangement. The standard gap indicator for correctly positioned furniture is more often used - 3-5 mm.
- It is also necessary to check the moment when the facade fits under the cup correctly. Otherwise, the doors will close poorly. Most often, correct adjustment is impossible at such a moment, therefore, the hinges have to be adjusted. After studying the basic rules for door repair, you can begin to correct the furniture screws, which is carried out in several planes at once.
Tuning in planes
As is known, there are three planes: vertical (frontal), horizontal and profile ("forward-backward"). Accordingly, the adjustment of the hinges is carried out in them.
Using furniture hinges, you can change the position of the facade on the plane - this is useful when the doors are not pressed tightly to the body.
In this case, it is enough to turn the second adjusting bolt on the furniture fittings.
In order for the cabinet to last a long time, you need to adjust the hinges on the doors in all directions at once.
It is better to adjust vertically first. Front adjustment is necessary when the door stands out from the overall picture of the furniture, or one is located higher than the other (in the case when there are several doors on the model). This operation is carried out in four stages:
- You should open the doors and find the hinges, then remove the plugs (if there are any).
- On all the awnings, tighten the screws that are closer to the side. The vertical position depends on these bolts. The screws must initially be balanced in order to determine further actions.
- Close the doors and pay attention to the general position relative to the cabinet. If the upper corner is directed to the right, then you should also tighten the bolts on the upper hinges, while loosening those on the lower ones.
- To achieve a fully balanced facade, repeat steps 2 and 3.
At this point, we can consider that the vertical adjustment is complete.
One of the types of adjustment: "forward-backward", or profile. This method allows you to reduce or, conversely, increase the distance. Slightly loosen the screws and press on the doors or pull them towards you, tighten the bolt again.
You can adjust the cabinet hinges horizontally.
Tighten the bolt so that the corresponding corner of the door approaches the frame. Reverse actions (loosening) allow, on the contrary, to move the corner away from the frame. This door adjustment is used when the door leaf hangs at an angle.
Doing your own work on adjusting door hinges is beneficial and helps save on maintenance, but also gives a lot of positive emotions from the result. Correctly performed adjustment will not make you go back.
The durability of fasteners is influenced not only by the adjustment of fittings, but also by correctly selected fasteners.
