Mirror ceilings are a multifunctional design solution that will not only decorate the room, but will also improve its technical characteristics. So, what are the most common ideas for decorating ceilings with mirrors?

However, it should be taken into account that such filling carries certain difficulties with its installation and maintenance. Cleaning such a ceiling will be somewhat more difficult than individual small tiles.

Types of mirror ceilings

Mirror ceilings differ by the type of finishing material itself, by its shape and size, and by the type of fastening. The first type of fastening most often includes:

1. a regular mirror coating that is produced on a glass base;

   

2. organic glass or so-called polystyrene, onto which a special mirror film is glued;

   

3. specialized fabric with a glossy reflective surface;

   

4. aluminum sheets;

   

5. PVC film with a mirror surface.

   

In terms of shape, mirror ceilings are divided into solid (they are typical for tension structures, in which there are no joints), panel (all working material is presented in the form of rectangular panels, most often large sizes) and tile (they belong to cassette mirror ceilings). And, finally, types of fasteners, which are the most important point in the installation of mirror ceilings. There are three types of fasteners, the most common ones.

Hemmed - all material is sewn to the ceiling using adhesive.

Suspended - here a special frame is used, which is prepared in advance and is located below the level of the main ceiling.

Stretch – from the name of the type of fastening, it becomes clear how it is carried out, i.e. the mirror sheet is stretched between the walls in a special way.

Polystyrene mirror plates are presented on the market in the form of material rolled into rolls, which must be carefully straightened before use.

If time permits, it is enough to leave it unrolled for a couple of days. If not, then you can put something heavy on top of the unrolled material for a few hours. But such straightening is not considered the best, so it is recommended to use it only in the most extreme cases. Its installation is the easiest, since its base is a special self-adhesive film, due to which adhesion to the ceiling surface occurs. Polystyrene plates without a self-adhesive base are much less common, in which case PVA-based adhesive mixtures are used. The glue layer is applied very thinly so as not to weigh down the structure.

Classic glass mirror ceilings

In order to make a mirror ceiling from classic materials, it is necessary to carefully select the shape and even the color of the mirror panels, which will perfectly harmonize with the overall composition. Here it is important to do all the work carefully and thoroughly. After all, the appearance of the entire mirror ceiling depends on this, and any carelessness in the work will be immediately noticeable.

Cassette slatted mirror ceiling is aluminum strips with mirror coating. There are a large number of color shades of such strips, and you can choose for any "taste and color".

There is a little trick, you need to select slabs and slats of different shades so that the mirrors stand out most favorably on the ceiling. Of course, in order for such a ceiling to last as long as possible, it is necessary to follow certain installation rules. A gap of 3-5 mm between the wall and the final beam of the frame is a must.

In order to make a mirror ceiling with your own hands, you must first make a careful calculation of the required material. Then the ceiling is pre-prepared, leveled, and cleaned of previous coatings.

When attaching mirror coverings to an adhesive base, it is necessary to remember that it is strictly forbidden to remove your hands immediately after pressing the plate to the ceiling. The panel will peel off under its own weight, it is necessary to support it for some time. For fastening with screws, it is necessary to use specialized rubber washers, which will help you leave the surface smooth and mirror-like.

For cassette slatted ceilings, it is necessary to carefully calculate the place of fastening of metal profiles and ceiling lamps. Most often, raster lamps are used for lighting in rooms with mirror ceilings.

Thanks to them, mirrors on the ceiling acquire depth and, in addition, they are considered safe for any type of premises. To connect to the power grid, it is necessary to take into account possible problems with the electrical wiring, including a possible fire. To avoid them, it is necessary to use a special terminal block.

The growing popularity of stretch ceilings has predetermined the creation of mirror stretch ceilings. For their production, a special polyvinyl chloride film is used, it is extremely durable and at the same time thin. Glossy canvases come in different colors, due to which they acquire various properties, from the maximum mirror effect to a blurred reflection of the floor.
