But there is an opportunity to save money without risking anything - by making a bed with your own hands from chipboard.

You will not be limited in the choice of shapes and designs, you can make both a standard version of the product and something unusual. You only need to take into account the basic sizes of the mattress available for sale.

How to choose the best chipboard bed option?

Any sleeping place has a frame and a base on which the mattress is placed. The bed frame is divided into several types:

1. Two support backs and two side panels.
2. Four side panels and hinged backrests.
3. Side panels without backs.
4. Legs on which the base and backrests are fixed.

If you are not experienced in the field of creating furniture with your own hands, do not choose a too complex, labor-intensive design for the first time. The easiest to manufacture and most reliable in operation will be a bed made of chipboard without legs. If the number of parts is minimal, the assembly process will be much easier.

To make the base strong, a double bed should have at least thirty slats. The optimal space between them is no more than the width of one slat.

How to make a bed from chipboard with your own hands?

The process of creating a bed from chipboard should begin with cutting the material according to the dimensions of the drawing. This can be done at home if you have chosen a simple model, and if you are afraid of spoiling the chipboard sheets - from the manufacturer for a small fee. When all the parts are ready, you can begin assembling the bed.

The standard box has a rectangular shape and is the main element of the product. Place the sides overlapping each other, fixing them with a metal corner and small screws.

If you make a bed with your own hands from chipboard for a child, the box will be small, and the sleeping place for adults must be strengthened in the middle between the side parts. This will give additional strength to the structure, and will not allow it to deform in the future.

Once the box is made, a sheet of fiberboard should be attached to the bottom, which will serve as the bottom of the storage compartment. The sheet parameters are equal to the dimensions of the box itself in horizontal area. Access to the resulting space can be provided by raising the mattress or by making compartments for drawers in the frame.

To give your bed a more sophisticated look, cover all the outer parts of the box with colored laminated chipboard sheets. The height of these parts should be a few centimeters higher than the chipboard base - this will prevent the mattress from sliding.

Then, between the sides of the laminated chipboard, perpendicular to the width of the box, install lamellas prepared according to the required parameters. They can be simply laid or fixed with self-tapping screws.

The next step in making a bed with your own hands is attaching the back. It will be higher at the headboard, lower at the footboard or may be absent altogether. These parts need to be edged with furniture edging.

To avoid scratches on the floor, attach plastic feet to the side parts from below. They will help you adjust the level of the structure if it is on an uneven surface.

Making a bed from chipboard with your own hands is not so difficult, the main thing is patience, desire and a little free time.
