A pillow is an important accessory for sleeping. But it can perform not only the important functions assigned to it, but also be a simple decoration. For this purpose, it is reasonable to make a shaped pillow. We suggest highlighting pillows in the form of flowers. This form is the most common, since the flower will suit any age and gender. Every needlewoman can make such an accessory with her own hands.

Selecting a form
It is worth deciding on the shape. There are many flowers in nature, and each of the species can be transferred to artificial material. Chamomile, roses, peonies, violets - whatever your heart desires. The main thing is to choose a shape that can also function as a pillow, that is, it is comfortable to sleep on.
Important! When choosing a shape, do not forget that the pillow must perform its main functions.
A flower pillow is primarily an accessory, but it should still perform basic functions. Here, everything depends on personal preferences. If you consider it an accessory, you can choose any shape, but if you combine two functions, choose a practical shape. The best option would be a chamomile or rose shape.
Selecting fabric and filling for a pillow
No less important indicators are the fabric for the shell and the filler. Among the good options for the first indicator, the following can be distinguished.
- Velour. Consists of small villi, due to which it has an excellent appearance. It is often used for furniture upholstery and curtains. The fabric does not wrinkle and is quite pleasant to the touch - it is very soft. But there is a significant disadvantage - abrasion. Therefore, it is suitable only if the product is intended solely as a decoration. Otherwise, bald spots will form on it.
Cherry colored velour fabric looks beautiful and is suitable for decorative pillows - Velvet. Similar in properties to the previous option, but has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. This fabric has a beautiful appearance: soft to the touch and has a noble external shine. This is a high-quality material, and, accordingly, it has a high price. It is mainly used for making clothes. If you are ready to pay a considerable amount for a pillow case, velvet is exactly what you are looking for.
The fabric is viscose velvet on a silk base in a luxurious emerald color, it looks impressive and expensive - Silk. It is radically different from the previous options. But it is perfect for our purposes. It has a beautiful appearance and is pleasant to the touch. This material is slippery and feels cold, so it is suitable if the product only serves as an accessory. Another significant disadvantage is the high price. But if you decide on this option, the high price can be avoided by choosing a cheaper analogue - satin or artificial silk.
Silk is a valuable fabric that is known for its unique smoothness and high strength. - If the chamomile serves as a real pillow, you can choose regular knitwear.
Knitwear is one of the most popular and sought-after fabrics, pleasant to the touch and practical to use.
Next, you need to choose a good filler. The functionality of the future product is also important here.
Let's look at popular options.
Filler | Pros | Cons |
Down and feather | Natural material, long service life, with the right ratio the product is lightweight | Collects dust, becomes electrified, can fall off, requires special care |
Bamboo | Lightweight, easy to care for | Doesn't hold its shape well |
Sintepon | Keeps its shape well, allows moisture and air to pass through, does not become electrified | No significant deficiencies were noted. |
Buckwheat husks | The product is pleasant to the touch and has anti-stress properties. | The product will be quite heavy and requires special care and regular drying. |
Tea | Pleasant anti-stress aroma, lightness, low cost | Periodic replacement of the filler is required. |
These are the most commonly used options. The best of them are synthetic padding, buckwheat husks and tea. If you want to use the pillow as a functional item, use synthetic padding or its analogues. But you can definitely sleep on used tea leaves or buckwheat husks. Usually the last two options are used to create accessories that are placed in the bed to improve sleep.
Note! To create a pillow accessory, you can use natural coffee beans or used coffee.
How to sew a daisy pillow yourself
We suggest moving on to making a flower pillow yourself. We chose silk as the material for the outer shell (you can replace it with satin or natural silk). Take synthetic padding as the filler. We chose a chamomile as the shape. This option will be good in appearance and functionality.
Preparatory stage
At this stage, it is supposed to prepare all the necessary materials and tools. In any case, you will need:
- shell material;
- filling material;
- scissors;
- threads in the color of the fabric;
- pattern paper or cardboard.
You may need beads or rhinestones to create the decor. Glue is needed to attach them.
Note! You can make dew drops from rhinestones as decoration.
We make a pattern
You won't need any special measurements to create a pattern. Just decide what size the pillow should be and calculate the dimensions of the components so that together they make up the size of the pillow you need.
Now we start to construct the pattern. You will need the following parts:
- petals (12 pcs);
- leaves (6 pcs);
- core (1 pc).
Important! One sample is enough to construct the pattern.
Take some cardboard and draw a silhouette of a daisy petal on it. It should be rounded on one side and smooth on the other. Then cut out the silhouette – pattern #1 is ready.
Do the same with the petals - just draw it on a piece of cardboard. Be sure to make sure that the leaves are not larger than the petals, otherwise the final product will look ridiculous. You will need several parts for the pattern, since it is better if the leaves are different sizes. But you can make them the same size.
For the core, just draw a circle and cut it out.
Note! For a better selection of the sizes of the components, it is better to draw a daisy in the natural size of the pillow and measure the size of its parts, and only then start drawing the patterns.
Cutting out the fabric
Now take the fabric and lay it out on the table. Before cutting, the fabric must be ironed, otherwise the pieces made according to the patterns may be smaller or larger than the required size.
- When the fabric is ready to work, lay out the pieces cut out of cardboard on it. Try to lay them out as close to each other as possible, it will be more economical. But make sure that the pieces do not end up pressing against each other.
Colored daisies, 1 pattern each, made from colored fleece fabric - Trace around the patterns with a pencil and remove them.
- It is enough to cut out the silhouettes from the fabric, and the fabric cutting is complete.
Now that we have our elements to work with, let's start creating the chamomile.
Sewing process
There are a few steps left to take:
- Sew the pieces together in pairs along the outline, leaving the even part open.
Sew the central part to the petals, sew the two main parts of the chamomile together from the wrong side - The details are practically there, let's start filling them in.
Fill the pillow with the chosen filling Turn it inside out through a small hole and stuff it - Sew up the remaining hole.
- At the last stage, assemble by sewing the petals to the core at the junction of the two elements.
- Sew or glue the daisy petals together.
We sew each petal with threads, thereby separating them from each other, and our flower pillow is ready. - Sew petals to the back of the pillow.
That's it! The flower pillow is ready. You can use it or just admire the product.
