Why does dirt appear on the pan?
As a result of operation, drops of fat and oil fall on the front side of the pan. This happens when frying food on adjacent burners, when liquid boils out of the pan, when moving food from one container to another, when washing. During the heating process, these drops of fat undergo chemical changes with the formation of volatile and non-volatile degradation products. Non-volatile products are the majority. They are represented by triglyceride polymers. They increase the viscosity of the oil, resemble resin, and can burn. Their ability to dissolve with detergents is lower than that of the original fats. If not removed in time, they harden and accumulate.
How to clean a saucepan from carbon deposits and burnt fat at home
It is possible to clean the resulting carbon deposits with available chemically active substances (present in any kitchen), applying mechanical force. This should be done regularly, at the first signs of contamination. Cleaning is carried out taking into account the material of the pan and the level of complexity of contamination. There are methods for mechanically removing old fat: using sandblasting, grinding, burning, freezing in the freezer.
Handy tools for cleaning inside and outside
There are many chemically active substances that can destroy burnt fat at home.
- You can use baking soda.
- Use baking powder to leaven the dough.
- Wash with rock salt.
- Activated carbon.
- Boil with laundry soap.
- Rub off with coffee grounds.
- Clean with mustard powder.
- Take vinegar.
- Rub the surface with apple peel.
- Use citric acid.
- Lemon juice.
- Use ammonia.
- Ferry.
- Wash with household chemicals.
Soda and table salt
Sodium bicarbonate (commonly called soda) has the characteristics of a strong base and easily interacts with acids (the breakdown products of burnt fats).
There are different types of soda:
- Food less active (ph8), more common
- Calcined (linen), more aggressive than food (pH11), precautions are required during use, used for complex stains
Important! Its use is absolutely harmless to human health.
Considering the scale of contamination, the contact time of soda with fat lasts from 30 minutes to 12 hours.
Important! Effectively removes the most stubborn stains.
Application options:
- Boiling the dishes, pouring this substance into the solution.
Stages:
- A container with water, larger than the pot being cleaned, is placed on the gas stove.
- Dissolve soda in it, stirring constantly (calculation: 70 g per 1 liter of liquid), and bring to a boil.
- The dishes to be cleaned are placed in the container and cooked for half an hour to an hour and a half.
- After turning off the fire, you need to wait until the temperature of the solution drops, remove the object being cleaned, and rinse it with water.
- Be sure to clean the container after completing all operations.
Important! The necessary repeated cleaning is carried out by increasing the amount of hydrocarbonate to 80 g per the previous volume.
- Add soda and water until it reaches the consistency of sour cream, apply the paste to the burnt surface and leave for several hours, then rinse under the tap.
- The effectiveness of soda increases when substances with which it actively interacts chemically are added to its solution.
Some of them are:
- Vinegar: 9% is required, the ratio with soda is 1:1.
- Hydrogen peroxide (2 tbsp): in addition to bicarbonate (half a glass), add detergent (25 g).
- Citric acid: 1:1 ratio, less harmful than acetic acid.
Cleaning pots with salt
Salt has excellent abrasive qualities and does not harm human health.
First cleaning step:
- Pour a few pinches of this substance onto the bottom and sides of the pan.
- A few drops of cleaning agent are applied to the sponge.
- The carbon deposit area must be rubbed vigorously.
- Rinse the salt and detergent mixture off the dishes with running water.
The second method of cleaning: It is necessary to boil the dishes in a strong salt solution (1 hour).
We use activated carbon:
- you will need 3-4 tablets of activated carbon;
- they are crushed with a teaspoon to a powder state;
- the powder is poured onto the burnt area;
- wait for half an hour;
- pour in cool water, wait for 30 minutes;
- wash with any dishwashing detergent.
Solution with laundry soap:
- half a bar of soap is grated using a grater and dissolved in water;
- the dishes are boiled in this liquid for 20-40 minutes;
- or heated to a temperature below 100 degrees and soaked for a couple of hours;
- The remaining soap solution is washed off with water.
Important! Suitable for people with an allergic reaction to soda.
We use vinegar
Vinegar essence is cheap, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and absolutely natural.
A big plus! It is able to destroy not only carbon deposits, but also rust, limescale deposits, and scale.
Method of application:
- mix with water in the proportion of 1 part 9% vinegar: 3 parts water;
- pour into a container and boil for 3-4 hours;
- The dishes can be easily cleaned from burnt fat.
Important! Boiling should be done in a ventilated area to avoid burns to the respiratory system from the fumes of this acid.
Cleaning with citric acid:
- dissolve a packet of this acid in a mug of water (200-250 ml);
- the utensils must be boiled in this solution for 1 hour;
- pour out the special solution, remove the soot with a sponge;
- The remaining substances are carefully washed away.
Important! Only citric acid is needed – lemon juice will not work.
How to clean a saucepan from soot using household chemicals
Cleaning products have long been a part of everyday life. They are effective, fast, and easy to use. They can be easily found in any hardware store. When choosing, you need to carefully read the instructions: the area of their application, otherwise the pan may be damaged. They can remove carbon deposits in 10-20 minutes, especially heavy dirt will have to be left overnight, putting a plastic bag on the dishes.
Attention! When working, you must protect yourself from skin burns with gloves and ventilate the room.
How to quickly clean an old saucepan from grease
The fastest substances for removing old burnt fat are household chemicals. Most of the methods given eliminate burnt fat deposits in a couple of hours.
How to remove dark stains from a pan
- The yellow, dark coating that forms inside is removed by boiling the onion and pear. They are cut into pieces and boiled for half an hour.
- Milk whey is placed in a container overnight. In the morning, the pan should be rinsed.
- Remove stubborn plaque with a chlorine solution (a spoon per liter of water, half an hour).
How to clean heavily sooted sides and bottom of a saucepan
Massive soot on the walls and bottom is eliminated by increasing the duration of boiling with the above-mentioned chemicals, as well as by repeated use of cleaning technologies, using several methods.
Peculiarities of cleaning pots made of different materials
Stainless steel
The walls of a stainless steel pan are very sensitive to mechanical damage. Chromium (in the alloy), having bonded with oxygen in the air, forms a protective film on its metal surface; damage to the protection accelerates metal corrosion.
Basic rules:
- Forget about metal sponges and scrapers, abrasive powders, cleaning agents containing small particles - there is a high risk of scratches of varying depth.
- Clean dishes regularly, without using a dishwasher.
- After removing dirt, wipe the product dry (to avoid stains on the surface).
- Clean using point movements (not circular ones).
Enamelware
Washing enamel-coated utensils should not be postponed for later; cleaning should be done with soft sponges and without coarse substances – to avoid damaging the coating. Any temperature changes should be avoided.
Aluminium saucepan
- It is prohibited to clean aluminum utensils with acids, as they form compounds with aluminum that are dangerous to the human body.
- It is advisable to wash it only after it has cooled down, to avoid deformation of the metal under the influence of water.
- Clean off dirt with a soft cloth and a wooden spatula.
- Detergents suitable for glass and ceramics.
- You can pre-soak the dishes by applying soap for a couple of minutes.
Teflon coated saucepan
It is necessary to boil water in it, adding a couple of drops of detergent. Teflon coating is extremely susceptible to aggressive chemicals, hard brushes and abrasive substances.
How to Clean Pots and Pans Properly and Restore Their Former Shine
- Pour kefir into a saucepan for several hours.
- Treat the surface with cucumber brine, 9% vinegar, leave for a couple of hours.
- Boil the onion in a container (30 minutes).
- Rub with a piece of apple.
- Apply tooth powder for a couple of hours.
- Rub with an eraser.
Care of dishes and prevention of burning
- Start cooking by setting the timer on the stove.
- There is no timer – set a reminder on your phone.
- Wash kitchen utensils regularly and without delay.
- Do not use a dishwasher or hard brushes.
- After washing, wipe dry with something.
- Temper the enamel before use (boil water in a new pan)
- Do not cook food on scratched items.
In general, the choice of method for cleaning a saucepan from soot and burnt food is determined by the properties of its metal, enamel coating, the presence of available chemical reagents, allergies to them, and the extent of contamination of the given cookware.
