How a thermos cup works
This is a double-walled container: a body and an inner flask, a sealed rubber stopper. The air layer keeps the drink warm in winter and cold in summer for 5-6 hours. The outside of the thermos glass with hot coffee, tea, chocolate does not heat up, you can easily hold it in your hands. In fact, this is an analogue of a small-capacity thermos.
Types of thermos cups
Manufacturers offer a wide range of all colors and shades, classic and original designs.
Common glass sizes
Small thermos cups hold only a glass of liquid – 200 ml. The maximum capacity of heat-saving dishes is a liter. There are thermos cups for 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 ml. Some manufacturers produce volumes comparable to iron cans: 0.33, 0.46 ml.
Important: the larger the thermos glass, the better the temperature is maintained. There is no need to worry when sending your child to school with a 200 ml glass of hot tea or coffee. By breakfast the drink will have cooled down a bit.
Materials of the body and flask
The following materials are used for the body.
- Plastic is the lightest option. Suitable for schoolchildren, motorists, mothers walking with children. The disadvantage is considered short-lived. Scratches remain on the surface of the polymer, they can break if dropped unsuccessfully. The obvious advantage is the low price.
- Ceramics are much heavier than plastic, a thermos glass made of it has one thick wall, liquid heated to 60 degrees retains the temperature for 4 hours. It is better to buy it for a car, office or home, where the risk of damage to the case is lower. Fans of active recreation should choose something else.
- Borosilicate glass looks great, but it's not as durable as metal. Double-walled glass is easy to maintain and dishwasher safe.
- Stainless steel is the most versatile and durable material for the body. It is used mainly for camping thermo mugs.
For reference: some manufacturers vacuum the internal space between the glass walls, thermal conductivity decreases, and tea or coffee stays hot longer.
The thermos cup flask is made of glass, stainless steel, plastic. Glass is considered a hygienic material, does not absorb odors, and dark tea stains are easily removed from the inner surface of the mug. A metal flask is more practical, but it darkens over time. Heat-resistant plastic requires careful handling. Abrasive detergents will leave deep scratches on the flask, in which bacteria will accumulate.
Opening method
The tightness of the thermos cup largely depends on the tightness of the lid. Several mechanisms for opening and closing the lid have been developed.
Thermos cups with valve-lid
The vessels open when you press a button. The mechanism works quickly and maintains tightness. Opening and closing valve thermo mugs is easy. The only downside is that the lid design is difficult to clean. Over time, a sour-smelling coating appears on the silicone or rubber seals, which is difficult to get rid of.
Cork lid
The lid is held in place by a clamp or a latch. There is a hole at the top that opens when you turn a small plate. You can drink from such a container on the go, the thermos cup turns into a spill-proof cup. Manufacturers warn that containers with cork lids should be transported horizontally to prevent the contents from leaking.
Twist cap
The threaded connection is considered the most reliable, the seal is pressed tightly to the edge. The vessel can be put in a backpack, carried in the car, without inserting it into the cup holder. The disadvantage of such a lid is that you need to open it with both hands.
Purpose
Small energy-saving containers are purchased:
- office workers, in them the coffee brought from lunch will remain hot;
- parents of schoolchildren, hot compote, chocolate will give strength after tiring classes, intense training;
- young mothers for themselves and their babies, with them the walk will be more comfortable;
- motorists whiling away time in traffic jams;
- truck drivers, lovers of long journeys.
Children's thermos cups
They are made with a small capacity, 200 or 300 ml. Screw-on ones are equipped with a sippy cup, non-spill ones - with a lock that tightly fixes the lid in a certain position. If the container accidentally falls, the liquid does not spill. From children's dishes, babies can be given a drink on the go, in transport, without any risk to safety. Clothes will remain dry and clean.
Heat-resistant glass for cars
A heater is mounted in a car thermos cup. The device is battery-powered and connected via a cigarette lighter socket. The cooled drink will heat up to 70 degrees in 7–12 minutes, depending on the capacity of the cup. The diameter of car thermos cups is selected to match the size of the cup holders. An additional hole is usually made in the roof to drink on the go; the plate is moved with a finger, by touch.
Important! It is recommended to periodically check the travel thermos for leaks. Over time, the seals dry out.
Thermos-cup for coffee
For excursions out of town, long walks, thermo mugs with a durable straw for hot drinks are convenient. A vacuum container of 600 or 700 g will keep the drink hot for 8-10 hours. It is better to choose a glass flask for a thermos-cup for hot coffee. The safest metal straw, it will not break if dropped.
By the way, thermos cups with a light body, white or light decor are more suitable for cool drinks. Dark ones retain heat better.
Additional features of thermo cups
The models are additionally equipped with:
- handles, they are made removable and permanent;
- spill-proof lids that allow you to drink on the go;
- a strainer that holds tea leaves, coffee particles, pieces of fruit or berries;
- rubberized gasket on the bottom, the dishes become more stable;
- drinking cups, they are equally convenient for children and adults.
How to use a thermos glass correctly
Before use, it is useful to check the tightness of the lid, then you can avoid unpleasant surprises. Pour into the container:
- ready-made hot or cold drinks;
- brew tea and coffee directly into a thermos glass;
- warm liquid and add ice.
How to choose a quality thermos model
When buying a thermos glass for coffee or other drinks, first of all, determine the purpose of the container. For hiking and active recreation, it is better to choose metal dishes, while plastic is convenient for city walks. Ceramics are convenient for storing drinks at home and bringing them to the office.
It is better to give preference to brands with a good reputation, which have proven themselves in the market. You need to carefully inspect the future purchase, check whether the cork holds well.
