A sliding wardrobe is a special type of cabinet furniture, which is characterized by the presence of sliding doors on a guide profile. Over the past 10 years, these interior items have become widespread and have noticeably displaced the classic wardrobes with hinged doors that are familiar to everyone.
The advantages of a coupe are obvious. They save space perfectly, and for owners of cramped apartments and small studios, this characteristic is extremely important when buying furniture. Another feature is that such wardrobes are usually made to order. This allows you to make a design that is ideal for the size of the apartment and its configuration.

Sliding wardrobe and its features
Modern production technologies allow us to manufacture a cabinet of almost any required size, so there are no special restrictions.
- Width of the sliding wardrobe.
The minimum indicator is considered to be 1.20 meters. The width is optimal for installing a sliding door. If a smaller cabinet size is required, it makes sense to replace the doors with hinged ones. The maximum indicator of the dimensions of cabinet furniture is limited by the dimensions of the chipboard (2800 * 2070 mm).
- Height of the sliding wardrobe.
Furniture can be made both up to the ceiling and slightly lower. In apartments and houses, the ceiling height varies between 260-310 cm. In both cases, the compartment can be ordered to the full height. At the same time, in models with a height of 310 cm, the cabinet frame will be made of parts joined together.
- Cabinet depth.
The optimal depth indicator is considered to be 60-70 cm. There is no point in making the wardrobe deeper. But why exactly 70 cm? When ordering a compartment, you should take into account: 10 cm of the wardrobe depth is “eaten up” by the sliding doors themselves, so these 10 cm are not included in the useful area indicator.
Most wardrobe accessories are exactly 50 cm in size. If the room is small and you need to win as much space as possible, you can make the structure not so deep. The minimum that should be adhered to is 40 cm. In this case, only 30 cm remains of useful depth.
- Corner built-in wardrobe.
The dimensions of the cabinet furniture model must meet other requirements. The minimum indicator of each side of the corner is not less than 1.2 meters.
Sliding wardrobe door sizes
There are no special recommendations. The only thing that can limit the compartment doors is the size of the material sheet (chipboard). However, there may be solutions here too. For example, choosing the right material or using a prefabricated structure.
Height of sliding wardrobe doors
If the wardrobe is planned to be made up to 2.8 meters in height, then there should not be any special problems, the indicator is covered by the size of the sheets of material.
In cases where the cabinet furniture is higher, you can go two ways: use a false box between the door leaf and the ceiling or connect several sections of the compartment door with horizontal dividers.
Width of sliding wardrobe doors
This indicator requires more careful consideration during design. The maximum width of the sliding wardrobe doors is limited by the length of the guide system (120 cm). The joint of two systems for one sliding door is undesirable, since the service life of such a device is extremely limited.
In general, there are no standard sizes; when manufacturing doors, they often focus on the customer's wishes. The width of the doors for the interior opening (60-90 cm) can be taken as a basis. The number of sections in the cabinet should also be taken into account.
As for the thickness of the wardrobe door, it will vary depending on the thickness of the material used.
Wardrobe filling: shelves and rods
The correct placement of rods and shelves directly affects the convenience of using sliding doors and the wardrobe itself. The recommended distance between shelves is considered to be 25-35 cm.
However, you can and should deviate from this figure to achieve the best result. For example, a deep closet needs the distance between the shelves to be slightly larger. This will allow you to easily get to the things that are further away.
On the other hand, it is better to have several small shelves than one capacious one. In this case, it will be much easier to store and organize things, and it will take only a couple of seconds to find the right clothes.
As for the clothes rail, its location will depend on several parameters.
- If you plan to make 1 rod, it is recommended to place it at the top of the wardrobe.
It is possible to install 2 rods (for shoulder and waist clothing). - The height of the rod can be set in the following way: measure the longest item in your wardrobe and add 5-10 cm to this figure.
