Advantages and disadvantages
The item is indispensable both for small one-room apartments and for huge studios, in cases where it is required:
- divide the space into separate cozy zones;
- make the most efficient use of space reserves;
- get additional storage space.
In our cramped apartments, with the current cost per square meter, this may be the best solution. The advantages of the products are obvious. They provide a relatively inexpensive opportunity to zone the premises without building walls. Various and unaesthetic screens and wardrobes also become unnecessary. And finally, there is more storage space. At the same time, a huge plus is that the facades and modules can be adapted to different zones and made in different designs. It has been proven that a double-sided wardrobe saves 12% of volume.
However, there are also disadvantages.
- Poor sound insulation.
- The design of the product is voluminous and bulky, which places special demands on its reliability and the quality of the materials used.
- Such furniture should be made to order, since it is not easy to choose a typical standardized solution for individual purposes.
Types
The imagination of manufacturers and customers is limitless, but the following types of products are distinguished on the market.
- Partition rack (easy zoning option, easy to get things out of, effective to use, for example, in a child's room).
- A standard partition cabinet (one-sided and two-sided).
- Sliding wardrobe partition (one-sided and two-sided).
- In shape, furniture can be straight, angular, trapezoidal, and even L-shaped.
The functions and contents of the cabinets can be as varied as you like and depend only on your imagination. However, we recommend approaching this issue very responsibly and leaving it to a professional designer (since the design of the product is complex).
Thus, the cabinet between the kitchen and the living room can have a window for serving food and even a bar counter and a pull-out table! On the room side, you can allocate space for a TV, and on the kitchen side - shelves for food and kitchen utensils.
In children's rooms and a study, you can provide open and closed book shelves, in the bedroom - drawers, sections for bed linen, and baskets for clothes.
A good choice for a living room is a two-sided wardrobe-partition, including a shelving system.
Tips for choosing
Conventional sliding wardrobes traditionally use alternative door opening mechanisms: roller (less reliable) and monorail (more reliable and durable). In the case of a sliding wardrobe partition, saving on this is almost a crime.
Pay close attention to the material of the rollers. Only metal! Plastic will not last even a year. The profile of the sliding system is steel (strong, durable, reliable, but less aesthetic). Aluminum is more refined, silent, but less reliable. The choice is yours.
The thickness of the side panels is at least 18 mm (European standard). In addition, such chipboards contain less formaldehyde.
The shelves have a side cut with an edge. Pay special attention to its quality (it often falls off). Cut-in and overlay edges are not suitable in principle.
The sliding wardrobe partition is "demanding" to the width of the door leaves. No more than 1 m (otherwise it will be inconvenient to use).
Be sure to discuss the assembly and installation issues, the qualifications of the employees separately, since installing even a regular sliding wardrobe is usually not a simple process. And ruining expensive components after several months of use as a result of improper assembly is not an option. Enjoy your purchase!
