Curtain decoration with rings has been used for a long time and is considered a fairly simple and inexpensive method. Some time ago, curtains were hung on rings that were put on the cornice and moved freely along the rod. The fabric was attached to hooks that were an integral part of the product. If they were not there, the material had to be sewn on by hand.
Nowadays, curtains on rings are used, but they look modern and aesthetically pleasing.
What are eyelets?
Today, curtain rings, as eyelets are also called, continue to be used in decoration. They are fundamentally different from simple plastic or metal rings to which the curtain was sewn.
Curtain eyelets are products made of metal, wood or high-quality plastic. They are installed in pre-prepared holes located at the top of the curtain. Their fundamental difference is that they can have a variety of external configurations, but their internal part is always round: this makes it convenient to put the curtain on the cornice.
Material Features
Today, the market offers curtains with ready-made fasteners of different sizes. The consumer is presented with various models:
- transparent single-color;
- with a picture;
- decorated with rhinestones;
- with a decorative coating imitating ornamental stones, wood, metal, leather;
- chrome or gold plated.
Holders, depending on the material, have their pros and cons.
- Metal ones are durable and long-lasting; the fastening on them will be reliable. They can withstand the heaviest fabrics without losing their configuration. The only drawback is the high price.
- Plastic ones are cheaper than metal eyelets. They move easily and silently along the rod. But they can only be used to secure lightweight fabric. Otherwise, the products may become deformed or break.
- Wooden ones are durable, beautiful, and environmentally friendly. They never go out of fashion, but like any natural material, they are not cheap. The exact cost depends on the type of wood. In addition, they will have to be removed before each wash so that they do not deform.
- Rings with different coatings are suitable for decorating a room in a certain style. They differ in cost and quality.
Eyelet tape for curtains: description, methods of fastening to fabric
One of the ways to strengthen the rings on the fabric is to use special fittings - eyelet tape made of nylon material, to which hot-melt glue is applied. The tape for curtains gives the fabric additional rigidity and is installed along the upper edge of the canvas. The sizes and colors are different, so it can be used to attach eyelets of different formats.
It is easy to apply to fabric: it is enough to heat it for the adhesive properties to appear.
Types of tape and installation methods
A curtain with eyelets will decorate the room, and for a strong fastening you will need a tape. There are two types of this product on the market:
- Single-layer, with adhesive applied to one side. They are suitable for any type of fabric. You can attach them by first going over the surface with a hot iron: this will be enough for the glue to melt and securely attach the tape to the curtain.
Translucent eyelet adhesive tape with one-sided thermal layer - In double-layer products, the glue is applied to both sides of the eyelet tape. This strip holds even more firmly, and a non-stick mesh is used to protect the fabric, which is removed after the tape has already been glued to the curtain.

Attention! Despite the simplicity of installing the eyelet tape, you need to be careful and monitor the degree of melting of the glue. If overheated, the adhesive mass will melt and leak through the fabric, leaving stains that will be very difficult to remove.
How to Make Curtain Rings Yourself
Everything you need to make the fasteners can be purchased in specialized stores, and many DIYers install them themselves.
Installation procedure for products
Curtains with eyelets and tulle with eyelets decorate the room, giving it a well-groomed and cozy look.
To install curtain rings yourself, you need to follow these recommendations.
- Purchase the necessary materials:
- eyelets of the required format;
- ribbon of the appropriate color and size;
- fabric for curtains.
Necessary materials and tools for sewing curtains 
We select eyelets of the appropriate size - those in which the diameter of the inner hole is 1.5-2 cm larger than the diameter of the cornice
- Prepare the tools you will need to install the fasteners:
- measuring tape;
- sewing machine;
- iron;
- pencil, chalk or piece of soap for marking;
- pins, scissors.
- Make the fastenings as follows:
- place a grommet tape along the edge of the curtain, which should exceed the diameter of the rings by at least two centimeters;
We cut out the fabric, adding 12 cm: 10 cm for the top hem and 2 cm for the bottom - fold the fabric to the width of the tape and iron;
Fold the top edge inward by 10 cm, glue the eyelet tape inside the resulting fold and iron it. - place the tape with the sticky side facing the fabric and iron again;
We make a 1 cm hem and stitch the top edge. - carefully mark the curtain rod, determining the locations for installing the eyelets;
We lay out our eyelets correctly and beautifully - from the top edge of the curtain to the eyelet 2-4 cm, between the centers of the eyelets - 15-22 cm 
When marking the fabric, you need to take into account the possibility of its displacement. 
We mark the place for the hole with a pencil along the inner diameter of the eyelet. - You can make holes using a special tool - a punch, hole punch or sharp scissors;
Carefully cut holes in the fabric 2 mm wider than the marked line. - insert it so that the bushings are on the front side and the rings themselves are on the back side.
We take one part of the eyelet and place it under the curtain. Cover with the second part of the ring and press firmly with your fingers until it clicks. 
Once the markings have been made and the holes have been cut, you can safely install the mounting rings themselves.
Important! Place curtains and tulle on eyelets at such a distance that the fabric does not sag. Their number should be even.

Imitation of eyelets on curtains
For a number of reasons, eyelets may not be installed on curtains, but they can be imitated if the curtain is made of thin fabric.
For this, you will need a grommet tape, which is attached to the fabric in the usual way, but with gaps. They are used as loops through which you can thread the curtain rod. Curtain tape with the effect of grommet successfully replaces rings. The rod will be covered by the upper part of the curtain, the fabric will gather in beautiful folds.
The work of performing the simulation will not take much time.
Curtains on eyelets: pros and cons
Ready-made curtains on eyelets make the room more comfortable. There are other advantages that this method of installing curtains has:
- fit organically into any design solution;
- fabrics of different textures and colors can be used;
- Various additional accessories can be used during installation.
One drawback noted is the requirement to carefully measure distances for fastening with clamps.
Consumer reviews also note that not all rings come with a full set of fasteners. If the rings have hooks, owners will have to sew the loops on themselves.
