The installation of roller blinds is quite simple, and the control does not present any particular difficulties, therefore this type of window decoration is one of the most popular today. In design projects, they are skillfully combined with additions, therefore their use already goes beyond the strict styles - only high-tech or minimalism.

Roller blinds: design features and installation methods on a window

The specificity of the roller curtain mechanism is the winding of the fabric on the drum using a gear, chains or an electric drive. Raising and lowering the roll manually is done in several movements.

The curtain consists of a roller, gear, brackets and fabric. The brackets can be static or spring, which can be snapped and fixed on the carrier (frame).

In the products, the roller and other holders are made of metal. Plastic or wood are also used. Open and closed designs (with a cassette) are produced. In the latter case, the roller is placed in a box, also wooden or made of another material. The materials of the canvas are different - cotton, linen, straw, bamboo, synthetic fabrics. At the bottom of the roll there is a plumb line - a bar. The canvas is often reinforced with guides - strings.

The structure can be fixed to the window sash, wall or ceiling, depending on the ease of control and interior design. The canvas is fixed to separate frames (fixed, opening) or along the entire length of a wide window.

Possible additions that are necessary to improve the style are tulle, long curtains, curtains with lambrequins.

Usually, the purchased product comes with instructions that explain step-by-step how to install the curtain. With its help, the curtain can be installed independently. But even without instructions, it is not difficult to do this.

Methods of fastening roller blinds

The installation of roller blinds depends on the type of window and the place where they are mounted. If it is a sash frame, then you can use construction Velcro. When replacing windows, you will not need to seal the holes later.

The second option is to mount the roller blind on screws. It is suitable for wooden frames, which can be re-spackled and painted if necessary.

The adjustment and installation of the roller mechanism must be done carefully so as not to damage the frames or interfere with their opening.

When installing roller blinds on a wall or ceiling, you cannot do without drilling - the base requires a strong bond.

Installing a roller blind on a window without drilling

A convenient way to install a roller blind on a sash. Not every window is suitable for this. Without drilling, the roller blind can be installed mainly on a plastic base - the adhesion will be reliable and neat.

1. The product is tried on the sash, and the fixation points are marked.
2. The window profile in the places of future fastenings is degreased using a special agent or alcohol and dried.
3. Pieces of double-sided tape are glued to the plastic and brackets.

   

4. The fasteners are fixed to the sash and the tightness of the window closure is checked.

   

5. The roller with the roll is attached to the brackets and secured.

   

6. The roll is checked for unwinding and lifting.

This method is suitable for an open roller and a closed cassette. It can be used on active and blind sashes. It is not recommended to install a roller blind on Velcro in wooden structures or non-standard (shaped).

If a fishing line is provided for rigidity, then it is securely fixed on both sides of the canvas.

The disadvantage of installation without drilling is that the connection is not very reliable. Over time, the tape loses its stickiness and peels off, so the fastening has to be renewed.

Installation of roller blinds on a window opening, wall and ceiling

Roller blinds can be installed on various surfaces. You need to choose one of the options depending on the way the windows are opened (so that the hand can easily reach the handles) and the overall design.

To fix the roll to the opening, mark the fixation points and drill holes for the dowels. Brackets are attached to them using self-tapping screws.

The plastic, aluminum or wooden mechanism is attached to the wall in the same way. Drilling is done with a drill. When working with a concrete base, carbide tips are used.

In order to place the roller on the ceiling surface and securely fix it, holes are drilled as in the previous example.

Tools and parts/components required for DIY installation

Self-installation requires not only the purchased model of roller blinds, but also auxiliary means.

To install on a wooden window, opening, wall surface or ceiling you will need:

• plastic dowels;
• self-tapping screws;
• drill;
• drill (for a brick base - a regular one, for a concrete base - a carbide one).

Double-sided tape is required for installation on the sashes.

In all cases, markings are made using a tape measure and a pencil.

Ready-made purchased products include a base for the structure and fasteners. Before use, it is necessary to check the presence of all necessary parts.

Roller blinds should be purchased and installed only after the following has been taken into account:

• window profile material;
• method of opening the valves;
• style of the room;
• the presence of additional decorative elements for windows.

You can install roller blinds yourself or invite a specialist. The simplest installation with tape takes only a few minutes, including window preparation.
