Brief description of curtains for cafes, restaurants
When creating the design of a cafe, restaurant, private house, apartment, there are some differences. For this reason, curtains for such premises are also sold differently. However, this does not prevent them from being used not quite for their intended purpose.
Thus, cafe curtains can perfectly fit into the home environment. They are universal in design, made of practical fabrics, have an optimal cost, and are useful for zoning.
Main characteristics
In the process of sewing curtains for cafes and restaurants, manufacturers adhere to certain principles related to the characteristics of the establishments. As a result, sun protection fabrics receive many useful properties and characteristics.
- High quality. No self-respecting owner of a public establishment will buy cheap stuff made from second-rate raw materials. All this can have a detrimental effect on the restaurant's image.
- Dust-repellent properties. A large room, crowds of people, constant movement - all this leads to the appearance of a huge amount of dust. Curtains with good dust-repellent characteristics are purchased for the restaurant.
- Easy to care for. Fabrics for such products are carefully selected. They should be as easy to maintain as possible. Many models can be cleaned even with a simple brush and water.
- Non-flammability. Manufacturers use non-flammable raw materials as a basis. The safety of customers and staff depends on this.
Important! The production process uses initially non-flammable fabrics. They are not additionally treated with chemicals, as this can be dangerous to the health of vacationers.
Types of curtains
Type | Brief description |
Hourglass | Such cafe curtains are attached to several cornices. The lower cornice is located at a distance of two to five centimeters from the window sill. In the middle, the canvas is often tied with a decorative ribbon. Externally, they become similar to an hourglass. |
Screen | A type almost identical to the first. The only difference is the absence of a decorative tape. This adds freedom of movement to the canvases. |
T-shirt | The model is made of light, airy fabric. It is attached to the cornice on special straps. Outwardly, they resemble T-shirt straps. Their design fits very harmoniously into French cafes. Such cafe curtains are installed on plastic windows in the kitchen, in the dining room. |
In what rooms would they be appropriate?
Unusual cafe-style curtains are a novelty in home design. These are special models, the names of which come from the place of their most frequent use. In catering establishments, they protect visitors from sunlight, creating a homely atmosphere inside.
Please note! Most models of such curtains are fireproof. This significantly increases safety in the house, especially in the kitchen.
In home interiors, cafe-style curtains are usually used in small rooms with clearly defined boundaries. Most often, this is the kitchen, toilet, bathroom, study, dining room. Short curtains are chosen for these rooms.
In the kitchen, curtains do not interfere with cooking, do not get dirty, and provide free access to the windowsill. Safety is a very important feature for kitchen design. There are frequent cases of curtains catching fire from a gas stove.
Longer models can be used in living rooms and bedrooms. This is usually typical for apartments decorated in the Provence style.
We choose the color and pattern of the fabric
You can decorate your house or apartment with ready-made curtains in a cafe style. They are sold in many hypermarkets and furniture stores today. When choosing a ready-made product, you only need to consider the size of the window and the method of attaching the curtains. But if you want, you can make the decor for the window opening yourself. To do this, you need to decide on the fabric, its color, and pattern.
A number of requirements must be put forward for the fabric.
- High-quality structure. It is not worth saving on fabric. It should be of high quality, dense structure.
- Fire resistance. This criterion is especially important when choosing curtains for the kitchen.
- Easy to care for, practical.
Please note! If you want to extend the life of the finished product, protect it from the harmful effects of the sun, make curtains with a lining. It is not difficult, but significantly improves the characteristics of the fabric.
If you choose a classic style, you should give preference to multi-layered models. At the same time, the pattern should be as unobtrusive as possible.
For the minimalist style, you need to choose light, airy curtains of white or light brown color. In this case, it is better to do without a complex pattern.
Floral print, light yellow, blue, pink shades - all this is the prerogative of the Provence style. In this case, the canvases should have medium density, floral, plant prints are welcome.
Sewing curtains ourselves
It is not difficult to sew cafe curtains on your own. To do this, you need to buy fabric and think about how to attach it to the curtain rod. Many people choose the "T-shirt" model. In this case, the fabric is attached to special straps.
- Preparing curtain panels. The length should be equal to the distance from the cornice to the window sill, plus six centimeters. Two centimeters will go to the top hem, four - to the bottom. The width of the panel is calculated differently. You need to take the width of the opening, multiply it by 1.5, add eight centimeters (two centimeters for processing the edges). This is the calculation method for a model with folds.
- Determining the number of straps. The distance between them should be about six centimeters.
- Sewing the panels. The curtain panels need to be folded on each side and sewn on a machine.
- Sewing the straps. The width of the strap should be equal to the distance that was chosen in the second step. Then it will look harmonious. We select the length empirically. We hem the straps from each edge by one centimeter.
- Sew the straps to the fabric. They need to be sewn on according to the markings made in advance.
