Corner curtain rod for bathroom
The structures that are equipped with baths not only have a utilitarian function, but are also part of the design. Whether a corner curtain rod is installed in the bathroom, or a straight one, depends on how appropriate it will be in this room. Of all the varieties of curtains, the most suitable and, if possible, ergonomic one is chosen.
Bathroom Cornices: Purpose and Materials
Curtains have a direct practical function - to protect the room from splashes flying from the shower. The curtain rod in the room is mounted in such a way as to maximally protect the floor and walls from moisture. The following materials are used for this:
- plastic;
Lightweight plastic curtain rod for bathroom from Ikea - tree;
Wooden interior parts are durable and easy to restore and replace. - metal.
Double chrome curtain rod for bathroom
Corner curtain rods for the bathroom made of stainless steel or aluminum are a popular choice. However, most apartments use the cheapest option - a plastic pipe. Some models can bend to the desired angle, but such products are the least durable. Wooden cornices are most often used in design projects today. The material is chosen to be moisture-resistant and fairly dense.
Types of cornices for the bathroom
The curtain rod needed for the bathroom can be straight, angular (radius, arched, oval), or figured. There are also U-shaped designs for freestanding baths.
Bar shapes used in modern homes:
- round;
Chrome shower enclosure with built-in round curtain rod - rectangular (like curtains for drapes with hooks);
Corner profile cornice in the interior of a Scandinavian style bathroom - strings.
String curtain rods are a thin metal string that will not distract attention from the curtains and the bathroom itself.
When installing, we proceed from the features of the shape of the bathtub or shower, as well as the desire to delimit the space according to the zonal principle - in combined bathrooms, spacious rooms.
Corner cornice
An L-shaped or arched design is a curved tube. It is designed to close a corner together with the curtain. The sides of the curtain may be asymmetrical, depending on the width of the space being closed.
The most common material for corner cornices is metal, since a reliable structure is required.
Corner cornices intended for the bathroom are attached in a special way. If there are instructions, then you need to follow them exactly.
In the absence of step-by-step installation, it is recommended to do the following:
- correctly calculate the length of the pipe, cut off the unnecessary part;
We mark the mounting locations - mark the location of the future fastening;
Marking the holes for the screws - drill holes;
- install the curtain rod on plugs and screws;
We insert the bar into the mounts and fix it - adjust the flanges, screw and cover plate until they stop;
- Use additional fasteners if the design requires it.
To attach a corner cornice with hanging holders, you need to first make precise markings.
This is important! It is not recommended to make holes for fasteners using a hammer drill, only a drill is used. Fixation points are created not at the joints of the tiles, but on the sheet itself to avoid splitting.
Telescopic/sliding curtain rod
The use of a prefabricated curtain rod is quite common. Usually it is a plastic structure, but there are also metal and wooden ones. It consists of several tubes connected one after another.
The sliding curtain rod allows you to adjust the structure to the desired length. Most often, it has a straight trajectory, but sometimes you can create an angle. When operating the curtain, the hand must freely move the curtain along the pipe, so the sockets are made of minimal width or the parts are connected with special sections.
The telescopic curtain rod is installed using holders. There are three ways of fastening:
- on self-tapping screws;
Fastening with screws is very reliable - by means of a sticky holder;
- using a spring shock absorber.
Spring for fastening a telescopic curtain rod
The installation of a telescopic curtain rod takes a few minutes, it is the easiest design to install. Of all the products, plastic ones are the cheapest.
If this option is used, it is necessary to calculate the weight of the rings and curtain. A curtain that is too heavy will bend the curtain rod and may eventually break. It is difficult to use hangers to strengthen a plastic telescopic rod due to its mobility, so it is better to choose corner prefabricated structures from another material.
Semicircular cornice
A non-standard curtain shape is used for bathtubs of the corresponding type – round, corner, figured.
The arched cornice can be symmetrical or with different side lengths, depending on the position of the bath and the shower configuration.
The semicircular version is preferable from durable materials - stainless steel or aluminum with a coating. The coating can be matched to the color of the room design, for example, silver, copper or gold.
Attention! Before installation, the length of the future rod is calculated, if necessary, the excess is cut off with a hacksaw for metal.
The curtain is hung on rings of the required diameter. With a circular curtain, you can make two curtains on both sides - typical for bathtubs that are a few centimeters away from the wall. In this way, the water will be limited by the curtains and will flow calmly into the bath.
Figured cornice
The know-how of recent years is a rod of unusual shape. It is intended mainly for baths of non-standard configurations. Relief cornices look organically in bath design projects.
When choosing, it is important to use options without tight corners and obstacles in the form of joints so that the rings move freely in both directions. A bar with smooth lines is the best option.
For a figured curtain, it is recommended to use durable materials - metal or reinforced plastic. A number of models are produced with hangers for more reliable fastening of the cornice.
The most correct way is to install the rod on self-tapping screws with overhead nozzles.
Which curtain rod to choose for the bathroom
In typical and designer baths, both standard and unusual products are used. For a budget option, plastic telescopic or solid curtain rods, as well as steel strings with a reinforced holder, are suitable. A more expensive choice is wooden and metal curtains, including those with ornamental trim and spraying.
A steel angle is a very reliable structure, especially if it is reinforced with hangers. You need to make sure that the rod does not have folds - this is an indicator of low-grade material.
To reduce the load on the curtain rod, the curtain should weigh a little. It is necessary to choose a light, water-repellent material with a smooth surface that does not wrinkle, is resistant to limescale and rust. Such stability is also needed for a metal rod so that its maintenance is minimal.
Wooden corner curtains should be selected with special care. The material should be purchased with high density, resistance to moisture and decay. Varnished wooden cornices look very
In spacious combined bathrooms, the curtain can act as a screen, separating the bathtub, washbasin and toilet. This additional barrier ensures privacy of hygiene procedures and at the same time creates the aesthetics of the room.
In bathrooms with stretch ceilings, hangers are not used; only wall structures are used.
When choosing rings for a curtain rod, it is better to give preference to aluminum ones with a plastic coating; they are noiseless, unlike pure iron ones.
