Curtains for doorway decoration
Curtains for the doorway are not a new idea. Our ancestors, for example, “creatively” decorated the entrance to their own homes with animal skins. A completely functional solution.
Today, doorways are decorated with curtains of various shapes and materials mainly for aesthetic purposes. We want to decorate the room in an unusual and comfortable way.
It is worth noting that curtains on the doorway are a solution suitable for almost any style, the main thing is to choose the right material and shape of the structure. Curtains on the door or doorway will not provide good sound insulation, and will not become a reliable protection from light or prying eyes, but, as a rule, this is not required of them.
The following products are used as materials for such curtains.
- Bamboo or jute.
These materials themselves do not have an elegant appearance, but the right choice of curtain shape allows you to make the room very cozy and comfortable for intimate gatherings.
- Fabrics.
Firstly, the variety of options offered is truly amazing. Choose the desired texture based on your own preferences, interior decoration or furniture upholstery. In addition, the fabric allows you to make a structure of almost any size and shape, which means you are guaranteed to be able to make your own dream come true.
- Plastic.
There is probably no area left where plastic would not find application. And doorways are no exception.
- Rope.
Thanks to their strength and flexibility, ropes are used to create creative curtain models that allow even the most ordinary interior to look individual.
In rare cases, it becomes necessary to hide the presence of doors. This happens because the doors do not fit into the overall design solution. Then the canvas is attached directly to the door. And when you are in the room, you may not even immediately determine that an interior door is hidden behind a beautifully draped curtain. For such purposes, volumetric structures with ruffles and flounces are often used, made of a material chosen to match the overall wall decoration or upholstery of upholstered furniture.
Important! Special attention should be paid to fastening the door leaf, both to the door itself and to the doorway. Make sure it is a reliable option, since the doors will be constantly opening and closing, and the structure may not withstand it.
Decorative curtains are often used to zone large spaces, to create more secluded corners in a large room.
Types of decorative curtains
Plastic
Plastic products are valued for their durability, practicality, ease of use, and water resistance. It is not surprising that "curtains" made of such material are used in various rooms and structures: in gazebos, on terraces, in bathrooms, in kitchens, as well as in industrial premises - warehouses and car washes.
Unlike other materials, plastic is a very practical material, therefore, in addition to its decorative function, it also copes with protection from rain and wind, with maintaining heat in the room and has good light transmittance.
Some people prefer the classic version of curtains that move along the cornice, while others prefer the model that rolls up into a roll.
Wooden
It is difficult to find a more environmentally friendly and pleasant material than wood. It is not surprising that it is so popular in different areas and spheres of our life. And wooden curtains for doors are a work of art, which in addition to its main task - zoning space - perfectly copes with the aesthetic function - to please and delight.
Small pieces of wood strung on a strong cord in a certain order can surprise. Different color variations are available, there are single-color curtains or contrasting ones. Pieces of wood of the simplest form (cubes, circles) or real mini masterpieces.
This type of interior element is combined with additional wooden objects in the room: figurines, lamps or shelves.
Along with external attractiveness and exclusivity, such curtains have a number of disadvantages.
- They can seriously impede passage from one room to another.
- Not easy to maintain. Dust accumulates on small elements, and it is very difficult to wash such curtains: the wood expands from water, and the paint suffers.
- Wooden curtains are a noisy element of the interior, which can also be annoying.
The structure itself is quite heavy, which means that simply hanging it on nails is not an option. Use a special curtain rod that will not “compromise” with the overall interior design and will ensure safety for you, your household and pets.
In addition, even if you liked the design of decorative curtains for the door in the store, it is not a fact that it will fit perfectly into the interior. Just one rule: everything in the room should not be wooden: wall decoration, floor, natural-colored furniture, as well as blinds on the windows and curtains for doorways. In this case, you risk losing the zest that wooden decor gives to the interior.
From beads
It cannot be said that such interior curtains are the most popular option, but handicraft lovers often use them in the interior. Moreover, today beads are available in a large assortment.
Most often, such "curtains" are used to zone the space in a bedroom or nursery, or to separate the bay window from the main part of the room. Correctly selected beads and the shape of the structure can really make the room comfortable and pleasant to spend time in.
Thread
The oriental element of the interior has firmly entered our everyday life and helps to make it spectacular. Thread curtains have been used for a long time. They are appropriate as a standard design of a window opening, suitable for zoning space and can decorate any doorway. By the way, such a model can be created with your own hands. It will not require serious financial investments, and with minimal time and effort you can make your own exclusive interior element.
Accordion curtains
An interesting know-how that has found recognition. They are made of different materials: glass, plastic, wood or paper. They are used in different rooms. For example, a plastic accordion curtain in the bathroom will protect the room from excess water. And paper accordion curtains on windows (pleated) will reliably protect from excess light and eliminate the need to use bulky structures.
Curtains for interior doors with your own hands
If you are a supporter of the classic option, you can sew curtains with your own hands from fabric.
To do this you will need:
- scissors, tape measure, pins;
- sewing machine;
- special tape;
- textile.
Important! When choosing a simple curtain design for interior doors, you can “win” due to the spectacular fabric.
Beginner needlewomen should opt for a simple model: two separate curtains that slide freely along the cornice. You will need to take two measurements: length and width. To make the canvases voluminous, multiply the width of the doorway by 2. Choose the length as desired.
First, we process the side sides of the canvases. Then we stitch along the bottom. And to the top we sew a special tape, thanks to which the canvas will hold the desired volume. At the last stage, we attach the curtains to the cornice and place the cornice above the door.
A little imagination will allow you to transform a standard doorway into a real interior pearl.
