In any apartment of a large metropolis, its residents decorate the windows with curtains. But before the decorative curtain finds its rightful place, the wall (or ceiling) must be equipped with a cornice.
Like any construction, finishing material, as well as all sorts of apartment devices designed to improve and simplify everyday life, curtains are sold in great abundance. They are distinguished by different materials of manufacture, hanging methods and much more. The article will discuss wall-mounted metal double-row curtain rods.

Types of cornices
In order to satisfy the whims of all stripes, the manufacturer of cornice products produces products from different materials. These are:
- tree;
- plastic;
- metal.
If plastic is produced in a single type of design, then wood and metal have a large number of varieties and grades. We will talk about wood grades in another article. We are more interested in metal products. So, a double curtain rod can be made of:
- aluminum;
- brass;
- tin;
- steel.
The last type of metal is steel, the most expensive. An interesting option is to purchase curtain hangers with forged elements. Such products have a very attractive appearance, but their cost often scares off consumers.
A cheaper metal double-row curtain rod is an aluminum suspension. Thanks to the development of the paint and varnish industry, aluminum suspensions can have almost any appearance. It is even possible to paint them to look like wood. Most often, such a rod is painted gold, silver or chrome. Patinated products are popular.
As you have already noticed, the article mentions double-row products. To give a complete idea of the cornice, it should be said that in addition to double-row, single-row and triple-row curtains are also produced.
According to the method of fastening, hangers are:
- wall-mounted;
- ceiling.
There is no point in talking about which of these two types is better, since each is applicable in certain conditions.
Ceiling curtains are installed in the case of a low room, when it needs to be visually enlarged. Usually, this is a profiled cornice made of plastic or aluminum. But since their appearance is not very beautiful, a ceiling baguette is additionally used.
The wall mounting method is used for normal ceiling heights. Also, before choosing mounting methods, it is important to know what the house is built from, namely, the wall and the ceiling. It will not be possible to drive a dowel-nail into a suspended ceiling. Also, heavy steel products cannot be screwed into a plasterboard wall.
It is worth paying attention to the type of the cornice itself. There are three main ones.
- Profiled (or profiled).
- Crossbars (round or square pipes).
- In the form of cables stretched between two brackets.
Each interior style will suit its own specific type. But there are also universal ones: the profile and crossbar suit almost every style. But the cable type is acceptable only in modern design styles, such as "High-Tech" or Scandinavian style.
Number of curtains: what does it depend on?
As can be seen from the photographs selected for this article, window textiles can have either several separate elements or just one. Such differentiation becomes possible due to the use of cornices with different numbers of rows.
For example, for single-row curtains, textiles in a single design are suitable. This can be either tulle or curtains.
A curtain is a part of a curtain composition made of thick fabric. Most often it is presented in two parts on the sides near the walls. A popular solution is a curtain made in two colors. This style of window decoration is called Italian.
Three-row products allow you to place a complete set of curtain composition, which in addition to tulle and curtains, includes a lambrequin. Two-row hangers are hung with two components, and the layout can be any of the possible ones.
Single, double and triple row suspensions are usually produced in the form of tubular crossbars of round and square cross-section. Exclusive forged crossbars reveal their true beauty of metal in such cornices.
According to the method of suspension, such products can be either wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted. Manufacturers produce a wide range of different models, comparable in beauty. Therefore, the type of fastening does not play a role in aesthetic qualities.
DIY Curtain: Step-by-Step Instructions
The choice of curtain rods for wall-mounted double-row curtains is quite large. Since these products are the most popular, there are many varieties on sale, with different fastenings, textures and styles. To consider the process of self-installation of the suspension on the wall or ceiling, we use a curtain rod with rings.
So, before you assemble a curtain rod with rings, you need to get a working power tool.
Advice. If you and your neighbors do not have a suitable tool, do not despair. Contact the power tool rental office in your city. Such services can be provided by well-known companies that sell tools. He who seeks will always find.
For installation you will need:
- level (construction ruler or laser device);
- roulette;
- square;
- pencil;
- hammer drill or impact drill;
- drills or drill bits for concrete (plasterboard or wood);
- cement-sand mortar, tile adhesive or liquid nails (in exceptional cases, which will be discussed at the end of the review).
In order to fix the curtain to the wall, you need to make sure that the wall is perfectly flat. This means the correct geometric shapes of the room. You need to decide what to set the distances from to mark the marks for drilling holes.
If you measure the points using a level, then in case of deviations in the horizontality of the walls and ceiling, the curtain rods will be skewed. In this case, it is best to take measurements from the upper edge of the wall. Consider the indent from the edge of the window opening: this value should be at least 5 mm.
Here are the steps you need to take.
- Mark the points for drilling holes for fasteners. Their number will depend on the number of holes in the brackets, as well as the length of the crossbar (over 2.5 meters is attached to three brackets).
- Drill holes using a hammer drill or a drill according to the marks.
- Hammer in the plastic dowels.
- Place the brackets at the points and screw in the screws.
- Next, install the crossbar in accordance with the sequence specified in the manufacturer’s instructions.
The fifth stage of installing the crossbar can be complicated by the absence of this very assembly instruction. Therefore, let's consider it in more detail.
If the curtain has curtain rings, and the number of brackets is 3 or more, then it makes sense to evenly distribute the rings across the sections. That is, there should be an equal number of rings between the brackets, plus one ring is installed behind the outer brackets to fix the curtain. At first glance, there is no difficulty here. This is true, but there is one nuance: if the bracket is ring-shaped, then it becomes difficult to insert the curtain rings.
Here's what needs to be done.
- Thread one end of the pipe through the first bracket.
- Place the number of rings on the end of the pipe that is determined based on the calculation of uniform fastening of the curtain.
- Next, insert the pipe into the intermediate bracket and hang the rest of the rings.
- At the last stage, you will need to put one ring on each edge of the curtain and close the ends with decorative plugs.
As you can see, there is no difficulty here. The same order of work applies to attaching curtains to the ceiling.
