Blankets require periodic washing, and if they are filled with synthetic padding, you can do it in the washing machine yourself. During the procedure, it is important to follow a number of rules that will prevent damage to the item. Mistakes during washing can make the product unsuitable for further use.

Machine washing does not affect the texture of the blanket in any way, but you should read the label and instructions for cleaning it.

Features of synthetic padding that are important when cleaning

A synthetic blanket needs to be washed frequently.
A blanket made of synthetic padding is light, voluminous and retains heat well, but due to its structure, it absorbs a lot of dust and sweat, so it requires regular washing.

Sintepon is easy to care for and is not afraid of water at all. If necessary, it can even be left soaked in cold water for a long time. Hot water can easily spoil the filler.

The material is also negatively affected by the impact of aggressive chemical detergents and the use of spinning. When hand washing, do not rub the filler too much, damaging its structure, otherwise the item will lose its quality and become unsuitable for use.

Washing modes
Washing modes that can be used to wash blankets

You can wash a blanket filled with synthetic padding in a washing machine, but only if it is small or when the drum load is allowed to be more than 6 kg. This is due to the fact that, light before getting wet, it becomes significantly heavier after absorbing water. In a standard machine, in most cases, the drum is overloaded and unbalanced, which is why the equipment breaks down.

There should be some space left in the drum.
The blanket should be placed in the washing machine so that there is still a little space left in the drum - this will allow it to wash better.

You can clean bedding in the machine only if the equipment is designed to load large items. When permitted by the manufacturer, the washing machine is designed for the weight and wet contents of the drum. The rotation speed is selected from 200 to 300 revolutions.

Spinning and drying in the washing machine are prohibited. Such measures, convenient for other things, will make the product unsuitable for use. A blanket with synthetic filler should drain after being removed from the drum.

No wringing allowed
Machine spinning and machine drying of the product is prohibited.

Step-by-step instructions for machine washing

The powder receptacle is washed from the remains of detergents. You cannot use regular washing powder when cleaning the blanket. A special composition is poured into the compartment for liquid detergent, which is intended specifically for items with synthetic padding.

Washing and care labels
The blanket must be washed taking into account the care recommendations for the material from which it is made.
Washing out stains
Wash out stains before the main wash using a suitable stain remover and/or soap.

Only completely intact bedding can be cleaned. Even if small holes are found, they must be sewn up. Without this, the fibers of the synthetic padding can come out and cause equipment failure.

The blanket must be intact.
Before you start washing, you need to make sure that the cover is intact, otherwise the material may fluff up, clog the filters, and wear out in certain areas.

The next steps should be as follows:

  • folding the product several times and then rolling it into a tube;

    The blanket needs to be rolled into a tube
    To properly load a blanket into the drum, you need to roll it into a roll.
  • placing a properly folded item into the drum;
    Liquid laundry detergent
    For washing blankets, it is recommended to use liquid (and especially gel) concentrates with enzymes.

    Washing gels
    Types of gels and powders for washing bulky blankets
  • setting the washing mode, which should have a temperature of no more than 40 degrees, slow rotation of the drum and exclude spinning and drying;
    Washing temperature
    To maintain quality, do not exceed the washing temperature indicated on the blanket label.

    Balls improve distribution of the filler
    Before washing, you can place 2-3 tennis or special rubber balls in the drum, which will prevent the filler from matting during the process.
  • setting the double rinse mode, if available.

    Super rinse mode
    The super rinse mode without spinning will perfectly rinse out the remaining detergent

Immediately after the end of the entire process, you should not take out the completely wet bedding. It should be left in the machine for an hour. Drying the item will be much easier, since most of the water will have time to drain during this time. During this process, while the clean item is in the drum, the machine door should be open. This will prevent a musty smell from appearing.

Cleaning bedding filled with synthetic padding in a washing machine is the best option. It allows you to remove all dirt and completely refresh the filler.

Hand wash

If the blanket does not fit, it is worth washing it by hand.
Not every washing machine has a large drum that would fit a blanket, so there is only one option left - hand washing.

Hand washing is necessary in cases where the available washing machine is not designed for large items. You will have to wash in the bathtub. This cleaning is carried out in the following sequence:

  • filling the bathtub with cool water 1/4 - 1/3 full;

    Water in the bath
    We fill the bath with water
  • dissolving liquid detergent for washing synthetic blankets in water;

    Special gel
    Liquid gel for washing down, feather, synthetic padding
  • sewing up holes in the blanket, if there are any;
  • placing an item in the bathtub;

    Hand wash
    Washing a blanket by hand in the bathroom
  • maximally even distribution of the wet item across the bottom of the bath;
  • After taking off your shoes, knead the product with your feet in the bathroom for about 30 minutes, without making any pulling movements;
  • draining dirty soapy water;
  • filling the bathtub with clean water and rinsing the blanket (repeat the procedure 3 times);
  • water draining from the product in the bathroom for 1 hour with the drain open;
  • removing the item from the bathroom and placing it to dry.

Hand washing a synthetic blanket requires a lot of effort, and it will be difficult to pull out a wet item. Because of this, you need to accurately assess your physical capabilities before soaking. If you are not sure that you can cope with the task yourself, it is better to contact a dry cleaner. Synthetic padding should be washed only with special liquid detergents.

Drying rules

Do not dry on clotheslines
This blanket cannot be hung up, it should be dried horizontally

Drying a synthetic blanket also requires certain rules. It is best to wash the item in the summer, when you can dry it outside the apartment. However, you should not hang the product in direct sunlight, as this can damage it.

Drying in the room
If it is not possible to dry the blanket outside, you can do it in a well-ventilated room.

When drying at home, make sure there are no heating devices nearby. The exception is a fan heater, which is placed 2 meters away from the wet item, which speeds up the evaporation of water.

Every hour you need to shake and turn the bedding to speed up drying. In addition, this action will allow the filler to be properly distributed inside the thing. When shaking, do not make sharp braking movements so as not to cause the padding to roll up.

What product to use

Wash with mild detergent
To wash a blanket in a washing machine, it is best to use not regular powder, but liquid detergent, a mild detergent, which is added to the drum.

Wash only with liquid detergent, which is intended for bedding with synthetic padding. Regular powders cannot be rinsed well and, if left, will spoil the quality of the item, as well as provoke allergic reactions. Also, the wrong detergent can easily cause the synthetic padding to become felted, which will make the product unusable. You need to choose detergents from the professional category. Those in the economy category are most often of inadequate quality and are not completely washed out of the item.

Proper cleaning of a product filled with synthetic padding is not a very difficult task, but it requires strict adherence to a number of rules. Mistakes in caring for the item lead to its irreversible damage, which requires purchasing new bedding.
