    Cutting sweaters
    We cut the sweaters into small pieces, using stencils we cut off the edges

How to make a blanket from old sweaters?

The process is simple and does not require much effort. Let's get to work!

You will need:

  • old sweaters;
  • and, needles, scissors.

Decide what size you want the finished blanket to be, for example, it will be 2.1 x 1.5 meters. Carefully cut the selected material on the sides and divide it into equal fragments of 30 x 30 centimeters - you should get 35 squares.

We cut strips and sew them into rectangles
We cut 12cm wide strips from old sweaters, sew pieces of three strips into rectangles, all seams must be overcast - with an overlock or by hand

Carefully sew them together. We sew the finished product with an overlock stitch to prevent the knitting from unraveling. The bedspread is ready.

Cut into squares and sew carefully
We take scissors and cut the sewn parts into strips - now across, we make our blanket from the resulting strips, and carefully sew them together.

Blanket from old sweaters in patchwork style

Recently, patchwork has become increasingly popular. We offer to create an unusual and beautiful blanket from old sweaters using this technique.

You will need:

  • interlining;
  • synthetic padding;
  • old sweaters;
  • threads, needles, scissors.
We glue the squares with interlining
We cut the sweaters into pieces and glue the resulting parts with interlining

The material prepared for work is cut into equal parts (20 x 20), glued with interlining. Take a square and fold it diagonally into a triangle, sew one edge, fill it with padding polyester (if it is a ribbon, then first lay it with padding polyester, and then form a triangle), sew it up. We do the same with other parts, sew two triangles along the longer side (hypotenuse), and do the same with other squares.

Making patchwork details
We make patchwork details from several squares, sew the blanket first into stripes, then as a whole, and iron it.

When all the blanks are prepared, we form a blanket from them, moving to the edges from the center. All cozy blanket from scraps with your own hands from old things is ready.

We quilt our blanket
We lay out the layers: lining with the front side down, synthetic padding, on top - a blanket of squares with the front side facing us, we quilt our blanket on a sewing machine, starting from the central seams

Blanket from old sweaters with decorative stitching

There are many interesting ways to make a beautiful and warm blanket, we offer another one.

You will need:

  • sweaters;
  • colored knitting thread;
  • needles and scissors.

We cut out the selected items, forming squares of the same size from them. We sew the parts overlapping with an allowance of 1-1.5 centimeters.

We perform a knitted seam
We connect identical squares with an overlap of 1 cm, we make a knitted seam at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge

First, you need to form strips, and then collect them into a single piece of the desired size. At the final stage, sew each side of the square with yarn using a decorative stitch.

We perform decorative stitching
We make decorative stitching along the seam with our own hands

This stitch will decorate and refresh the blanket and cover the joint of the pieces.

To sew a bedspread with a binding you will need:

  • old sweaters;
  • knitting threads;
  • hook and scissors.

    Making Rectangular Pieces from Sweaters
    We unravel the sweater and give its fragments (sleeves, back, front) a rectangular shape.

We cut the prepared material into squares or rectangles. We lay out the resulting blanks, forming a blanket out of them (it is better to do this on the floor).

We tie it with a single crochet
We crochet the resulting patch in a circle, the first row with a single crochet
We tie up our fragments
The second and subsequent rows with a double crochet, we tie an arbitrary number of rows for our blanket fragment

Take one piece of fabric and crochet it in a circle on all sides, adjusting the number of rows of crochet at your discretion.

Connecting the fragments
We connect the resulting fragments together with a single crochet

We do this with each element of the blanket. We connect the parts of the blanket together with a single crochet.

We connect all the fragments into one canvas
Having made the required number of “sweater patches”, we connect them all together with a single crochet
Finished canvas
The finished fabric for our blanket, if desired, it can be made double-sided or with a lining

Do-it-yourself blanket using felting

This technique is only suitable for sweaters made of natural wool (look at the label wool 100 – 80%). We will felt in the washing machine. Here are some simple tips to achieve the desired result:

  • it is better to immediately cut the sweaters into squares or strips of the required size, removing the parts that are not needed for work;
  • to avoid clogging the filter with fluff from natural items, it is better to put them in a pillowcase;
  • For better felting, add a tablespoon of grated laundry soap, a teaspoon of baking soda and tennis balls (if available) to the pillowcase.

Experts advise adding an unnecessary towel or denim together with woolen items. The water for washing should be very hot. After the cycle, check if the knitted seams are visible, if so, run the wash again. If the machine has a drying function, use it, this will increase the chance of getting the desired result.

There is an alternative to felting in a washing machine - just boil wool sweaters. When the material stops fluffing, you have achieved the desired result. Rinse in cold water.

Our blanks are felted and dried, let's start assembling the blanket. We assemble the parts and sew them together. At the end, we sew on the lining fabric. We sew the edges of the blanket with bias binding.
