How to sew bed linen for a baby crib with your own hands

- threads;

- measuring tape;
- needle;
- scissors;

- foam rubber (sintepon);

Sewing a pillowcase
Sewing a pillowcase is not difficult if you stick to precision. To do this, you should carefully fold the pattern.
- It is necessary to measure 70 x 50 cm of fabric from the whole piece and fold it with the right side inward.

Cut out fabric for three zippered pillowcases - The remaining 30 cm corner should be folded upwards (this will create a flap that will secure the pillow in the pillowcase).
We process the two short sides of the future pillowcase separately using a hem with a closed cut.

Sewing a bed sheet
There are several ways to sew a sheet for a baby crib:
- regular rectangular;
- on an elastic band.
Sewing a sheet using the first method is as easy as pie.
- You need to cut a certain size of fabric and make an allowance of 1-2 cm on each side. You will get a piece 145 cm long and 115 cm wide.
- Now you can start sewing the bed sheet. On each side, you need to fold the fabric 1 or 2 times (depending on the model of the machine, if it does not have an overlock, you will have to fold it 2 times) and hem it. If the fabric has processed edges, but they look bad, it is better to hem these sides too.
- The finished product is also ironed, special attention should be paid to the processed edges. They should be ironed more carefully.
The second version of the sheet is suitable for very active children. A sheet with an elastic band is more difficult to sew, but if you follow the instructions, everything will work out.
- You will need a piece measuring 120 x 150 cm.
Fold the sheet fabric in half, and then in half again - It needs to be folded in 4 and in the upper right corner measure a 20 x 20 cm square, and then cut with scissors.
Draw a 20 cm x 20 cm square, pin the fabric on both sides of the marked lines and cut out the corner - The next step is to process the corners. They need to be sewn and overlocked.
We fold the cuts with the right sides together, baste them with a closed cut, and stitch them. This is what the corners of our sheet look like after processing. - All sides need to be hemmed, leaving room for the elastic, which will then need to be threaded in. In this way, the edges of the sheet will gather and form a “lid” that will cover the mattress.

Important! The sheet will be well fixed and will not crumple under the baby.
- The final stage. The elastic should be inserted into the finished product and pulled along the entire perimeter, and then the edges should be sewn. Finally, the sheet should be ironed so that it takes the desired shape.
We insert the elastic into the sheet, straighten it out and fasten the ends together with a few stitches.

Sewing a duvet cover
To sew a duvet cover for a bed set, you will need fabric measuring 200 × 280 cm. It is important to place the blanket in the prepared piece of fabric in advance and determine that the duvet cover fits the size of the blanket.
- The finished piece of fabric must be folded in half, and the top and bottom sides must be processed.
We unfold the fabric, fold it across with the right side inward, so that the edges of the fabric are folded together 
We process the two short sides of the duvet cover, making seams with an open cut hem - On the side, you should leave 40-50 cm for an opening for the blanket, and process the remaining parts as well.
We process the entrance - we bend one layer of fabric to the wrong side and process it between two marks with a hem with a closed cut, we repeat the same on the other side 
We make a line from mark to mark on each side of the “entrance” - If desired, the hole can be covered with a beautiful ribbon.
We sweep the cuts on both sides of the “entrance” with a hem with a closed cut, and lay out the lines - Like the previous components of bed linen, the duvet cover must be ironed to straighten out all the seams.

Sewing bumpers for a crib
Bumpers are a very useful thing. They help protect children from injuries from the bars of the crib. Now many parents try to equip the baby's sleeping place with such elements as bumpers. They require a fabric much denser than for bed linen. Therefore, it must be purchased separately, chosen among dense types of material.
- You need to make a pattern for the sides with your own hands. It assumes a rectangular shape. For the long sides of the crib, a 40 × 60 cm piece of fabric is cut, and for the short sides – 40 × 120 cm.
- The edges of the canvases need to be processed by sewing a thick ribbon or tape to each corner (this way the sides will be tied to the bed).
- Finished products should be turned inside out and then the "pockets" should be filled with foam rubber or synthetic padding. It should be prepared in advance. The foam rubber should be measured correctly so that it fits the size of the sides.
- Then the lock is sewn into each part. This action is necessary so that the foam rubber can be pulled out when washing. This way it will not bunch up on one side. It will be possible to unfold it and the sides will always be in excellent condition.
Advice! You can sew covers for the sides, which will need to be removed and washed from time to time. Then there is no need to sew a zipper into the sides. The covers will be sewn in the same way as the sides, only 2-3 cm larger, so that the sides fit freely into the covers and do not wrinkle there.
Tips to help you sew baby bedding
The underwear should not have any textured decor (locks, zippers, Velcro, snaps, buttons). Otherwise, the child may harm himself, put the part in his mouth (swallow it or choke).
There is no need to glue various appliques onto the duvet cover or sheet. This option is not practical. When washing, the elements may fall off or lose their attractive appearance.
