What to sew from

Since the dimensions of bed linen for a doll are not very large, it will not be difficult to find the material that will serve as the basis for sewing. These can be old towels or any other things. To choose correctly, decide what material you need. If you are sewing a pillowcase, it is better to take natural fabric taken from old things. A terry towel will do for a sheet or duvet cover.

In general, sewing such underwear accepts any old things that can be cut up and put to use.

Basic rules of sewing

After choosing old things that will become the basis, you need to make patterns and get down to business. To do this, you need to know the basic rules:

  • Be sure to overcast the edges of cut fabrics;
  • Sew items inside out only;
  • select thin threads No. 40;
  • make patterns according to the height of the doll, bed.

Important!

You need to add 3 cm to the pattern dimensions for seams.

We present a size chart of the most popular types of dolls.

View Standard toy size (height cm) Length of sheet, duvet cover cm
Barbie 27-29 30
Big doll 45-50 52-53
Average 33-40 42-43
Small 25-30 30-33
Baby-bon 43-45 47

Using this table, draw the pattern, adding another 3 cm for the inseam.

Now let's talk more about the different textile details.

How to sew a pillowcase

Select the required fabric size
We select the required fabric size, cut out two pieces from the fabric, sew along the perimeter, leaving about 10 cm of space
Filling with filler
We fill the future pillow with filling balls

This is one of the most difficult parts. The snag is, first of all, in the small proportions. The doll's pillowcase will be quite small, so you need to work carefully.

We get a small pillow
We sew up the opening with hidden stitches and get a small pillow

We will sew a standard pillowcase with a fold. Measure a square (rectangle) of the required parameters, make the appropriate marks.

Cut out fabric for the pillowcase
Centering the pattern, cut out the fabric for the pillowcase, take a frill or braid, stepping back 1-2 mm from the border of the ornament, and stitch it inside
We fold the edge
We put the future smell on top, about 30% of the width of the pillow, and fold the edge

Advice!

The pillow should be 3 cm larger on all sides than the space occupied by the doll's head.

Turn over and sew the piece
Turn over and, using the outline as a guide, sew the piece, leaving a 1-2 mm margin.
Sew the wrong side
We sew the back side of the pillowcase along the perimeter, focusing on the outline of the pattern, first bending the bottom edge

Next, put marks similar to the first dimensions. The third segment should be equal to 1/3 of the full measurements.

Ready-made pillow
We overcast the inner seams, turn them inside out, sew on beautiful buttons and make loops for them.

Now cut out the resulting piece, sew the gap (which was 1/3 of the pillow) to the main part. Then fold the resulting rectangle (or square) in half, sew on both sides. The pillowcase is ready.

Sheet

Making a bed sheet
We make a sheet, add 5 cm to the size of the mattress on each side, fold the edges

This item is the easiest to deal with. The sheet should be 2-3 cm larger than the doll's bed (depending on the height of the bed).

All you have to do is measure the dimensions of the bed, cut out a rectangle of the appropriate size, and hem it around the perimeter.

If desired, you can add ruffles and fringe.

Do you need a duvet cover?

Selecting fabrics
Selecting fabrics for making a patchwork quilt

The question about the duvet cover often arises here. Is it necessary? The answer depends on the existing blanket. If it is thick, the cover will come in handy. If it is thin, this part of the textile is unnecessary.

We cut out the central part of the blanket
We cut out the central part of the blanket – some beautiful block, embroidery, an interesting fragment
We trim with stripes
We border the picture with stripes around the perimeter

It is best to get a winter blanket, making a cover for it, and a summer one, which does not require this detail.

The duvet cover should match the size of the blanket. Measure it, make a pattern according to the measurements you get. It is best to make a cover with a lock on the side or a slit on one side.

Cut off a strip
From another fabric we cut a strip, make two squares and cut them diagonally
Sew the seam allowance
Sew a 3 mm allowance around the perimeter
Align the edges
We align the edges, assuming an allowance of 7 mm

Measure out two identical rectangles. Fold in half, sew two sides. Leave the third side overcast or sew a zipper there.

Sew the triangles on the sides
We take two squares from another fabric with a side of 25 cm, cut them diagonally, and sew them on the sides.
Attaching thin tape
Sew a very thin lace trim around the perimeter

Important!

The slit is left along the width of the product, the zipper is inserted along the length.

We take very thin synthetic padding
We take very thin synthetic padding for filling the blanket and make a “sandwich” of fabrics
We make a stitch along all the contours
We make a stitch along all the contours and an additional stitch next to the lace trim.

Now you can sew bedding for the doll yourself. If desired, you can decorate it with additional elements.

We come up with stitching options

Edging the picture
We make a edging along the contours with a stitch, which will create a bulge

These can be patches, stickers, embroidery, stones, rhinestones – anything you can find in the house. Don’t forget to consult with your child about what kind of decoration he or she will like best.
