What is viscose?
Viscose is an artificial product obtained from cellulose (up to 82%) with the addition of polyester and polypropylene fibers.
Cellulose is the main component and structural material of plant cell membranes. It does not dissolve in water and is only affected by some solvents. It does not break down when heated to 200°C. Due to its properties, it has high mechanical strength. It contains hydroxyl groups – it absorbs water well.
Cellulose is mainly made from wood. The wood is crushed and boiled in an alkaline solution. The mass is bleached, pressed, and broken down into individual fibers, which are used to produce fabric and non-woven material.
The ratio of cellulose to other substances determines the properties of viscose.
