But if desired, each of us can repeat this miracle by crocheting a tablecloth with our own unique pattern, even if before this we have never tried crocheting not only a tablecloth, but even a small napkin.

In fact, if you have a pattern with a detailed description for beginners, there is no particular difficulty in crocheting a lace tablecloth, you just need to approach the beginning of this exciting and useful activity correctly.

Let's get started - tools and materials
Correctly selected tools are the key to successful completion of any task, knitting is no exception. It is not at all difficult if you follow simple recommendations for crocheting a tablecloth, provided by us with a full description in Russian.
"Hook-making" tips
- The key tool for creating such knitted items is, of course, the crochet hook.
- The choice of material from which the tool is made is purely subjective. It can be plastic, aluminum, wood, steel or even bone, but for beginners it is recommended to choose a one-piece hook, where the handle and head are made of the same material.
- The classification of hooks by numbers indicates their thickness, that is, in No. 1 the thickness of the working part will be 1 mm, in No. 0.25 – 0.25 mm, and so on.
Caution! When choosing a tool, make sure that its head is not too sharp, to avoid the risk of finger injuries. An excessively round head is also not suitable due to the difficulty of entering the loops. The best choice would be a rounded cone shape.
Choosing yarn
To create such light and airy items as decorative or for special occasions, hand-crocheted tablecloths, linen or cotton threads are best suited: Iris, Lily, Narcissus, Violet and others from these series. In some cases, even a zero of ordinary sewing threads will do. For denser items, even fabrics are used when crocheting.
If the tablecloth is knitted for daily use, it is better to use viscose or synthetic yarn, this type of knitting is easier to wash, silky in appearance and touch and produces more frequent falling folds.
To create a truly strong and durable, no less beautiful tablecloth, it is better to choose mercerized, that is, specially processed yarn, such as Rose. Products made from such yarn are not subject to shrinkage, practically do not wrinkle, do not fade or fade, but the airiness of such a tablecloth will be noticeably lower.
Tip! To create an even and neat knit, choose yarn that is about 1 mm thinner than the hook.
Crochet tablecloths
There is a huge selection of various patterns for crocheting, constantly growing thanks to the efforts of craftswomen. The sizes and shapes of knitting also vary depending on subsequent use. Even beginners can create simple and beautiful crochet tablecloths with all the detailed patterns we provide, you just need to decide on the parameters of the future creation.
Round Tablecloths and Crochet Patterns
Making round patterns is not the most difficult knitting, although it is considered a classic in this type of activity. It is better for a beginner to try knitting with simple small forms, moving on to large canvases with complex patterns as experience increases, using patterns with a description of crocheting a small tablecloth for a round table.
Small round tablecloth with simple crochet pattern
At the end, it is recommended to slightly moisten and starch, followed by drying on a flat surface.
Large round tablecloth with large crochet pattern
As in the first case, we lightly moisten the knitted tablecloth with starch and dry it.
Openwork tablecloth
Place the lightly starched finished tablecloth on a flat surface, fixing the desired diameter, and wait for it to dry.
Tablecloth with Pineapple Pattern
Despite the fact that it is quite easy to crochet a tablecloth with a “pineapple” pattern for a round table using the pattern, many beginners get lost when doing it. The process of crocheting such a tablecloth is shown in more detail in the video at the end of the article.
Attention! Crocheted items cannot be washed in washing machines to avoid damage. When hand washing, use special detergents for delicate fabrics.
Oval crochet tablecloths with diagrams and descriptions
The process of knitting oval tablecloths is a little more complicated than the previous one, and there are slightly fewer of them than the others. Nevertheless, any novice master can crochet an original tablecloth even for a large oval table, if he strictly follows the given rules.
Oval tablecloth with large flowers
Knitting begins with the main part of the tablecloth. A chain of 100 VP is collected, then 4 lifts to move to a new row and knit a bias net. We finish the row with a connecting post in the 1st VP of the edge of the set. Then we knit in a circle according to the pattern, where the arrows indicate the direction. We knit the rows in height according to the order.
After that, we divide the work into central and side sides, mark. We knit both central sides, shifting the rapports between each other according to the checkerboard pattern. We knit the side parts, following the sequence of rapports. We repeat in height 4 times from 10 to 28 and the product is ready.
After knitting, as in the previous version, dry on a flat surface with fixation, lightly washing.
Blue tablecloth with white border for an oval table:
We work according to the description. First, with a blue thread, we dial 243 VP = 238 VP base + 3 VP lift + 2 VP. We knit with a crochet hook.
1st row: 1 stc in chain stitch #9, counting in the chain from the tool, then we make 79 fragments of fillet knitting, after which we continue to use the fillet technique in rows straight-back inclusively up to the 67th row.
Now we add white yarn to the knitting and knit a border along the entire edge of the fabric. A full circular knitting is required from row 1 to row 10. To finish, we use the slip stitch method, after which we secure the cut end of the thread as inconspicuously as possible.
Tablecloth "Fairytale Flowers"
This tablecloth is knitted using the filet method according to the pattern, starting from the core to the edges. Each half is made in turn.
Tablecloth in fillet technique
We also knit from the middle to the sides (on the diagram, a quarter of the tablecloth), all the other parts are done the same way, but in mirror image. You can increase the length of the finished tablecloth, as in the photo, by increasing the number of rapports.
Advice! It is best to use pins to secure the canvas while it dries to avoid losing its shape, so make sure you have them before you start working.
Rectangular crochet tablecloths with all the patterns and descriptions
A rectangular tablecloth is a little easier to knit than an oval one, since the former is also considered classic, just like the circle one.
Rectangular Tablecloth for Beginners:

- Rectangular tablecloth "Birds chirping";
- Tablecloth using continuous knitting method with border: video master class.
Such a tablecloth is knitted using motifs, that is, different fragments, which together later make up a pattern on the finished canvas. All the patterns and sequence of knitting a rectangular tablecloth with a crochet hook from motifs, shown literally on the fingers, can be viewed sequentially in the videos posted on the Internet.
Important! If you have not yet decided on the size of the future product, you should prefer knitting from motifs, the required number of which can always be added as you progress.

Choosing a pattern of motifs will help you avoid doubts about the size of the finished tablecloth. This way, you can add the required number of motifs to the length or width as you work.
Advice! Before starting work, study it carefully and to the end. This will help to clarify all unclear points that may affect the finished thing in the future.
Tips for knitting tablecloths
For those who are just learning to knit, it will be easier to start with small shapes, such as napkins. You should choose simple and clear patterns. To make the knitting even, try to make the same columns, then the pattern will be clear.
First, it is worth practicing, determining the appropriate hook using different sizes, making several samples. This will make it easier for you to understand how to correctly combine the main components of knitting - its density and interaction with the hook and material, as well as calculate the thread consumption for certain parameters of the product.
When choosing yarn, special attention should be paid to the uniformity of the yarn threads by thickness, otherwise the finished product will have an unsightly appearance. You should also pay attention to the thread consumption so that at the end of the skein you have a “tail” for fastening. It is recommended to use a new skein only from the beginning of the row.
Finished products should be treated with a wet-heat method to shape, improve the appearance and correct possible defects. To do this, the damp tablecloth should be fixed on a flat surface and ironed. Openwork products are ironed using an iron with a steaming mode through a dry cloth.
Good riddance!
