Knitting enterlak with knitting needles
It is not at all difficult to create a flat fabric, for example, an enterlak blanket with knitting needles.
The work can be done either with a crochet hook or with knitting needles. The main characteristic point of this knitting style:
- A combination of identical geometric shapes of different colors;
- Relief of the canvas.
Before starting work, it is worth purchasing threads of at least 2 colors.
Enterlak blanket knitting description
- Cast on a sufficient number of loops in 1 color for the width, for example, for a fabric 40 cm wide with 0.5 knitting needles, about 20 loops are enough.
- The first row is knitted with all front loops.
Next, we unfold the work and knit the triangles like this:
- 2 purl loops – turn the work to the other side,
- 2 front loops – turn again,
- From the first purl knit 2 purl, and the 2nd - just purl and turn the fabric again,
- 3 persons. – turn,
- Then we continue according to the plan until there are 7 loops of the faces on the knitting needle. We close these loops with the purl until the first 2 loops again and go back to the first row - to the next 2 purl loops, from which we gradually knit 7 loops of the new triangle.
As a result, we get triangles of 7 loops each. Once the first row is finished, you should have 14 triangles. But, the number of loops will not change.
The work needs to be turned to the wrong side and the second color of thread needs to be inserted. The plan of action is similar:
- From the 1st purl - 2 loops, the next one - just purl - turn the work over and knit all 3 loops as front loops.
- Continue this way until there are 7 loops on the knitting needle – now close these 7 loops to 2 and move on to the next (3rd) loop of this row.
- When all the triangles are connected, the work must be turned to the other side, remove the thread of the 2nd color (i.e. use only the 1st color again) and repeat the process.
We finish the fabric to the required length and close it along the edge with regular purl loops.
This knitted enterlak blanket looks great on a bed, sofa, armchairs, and is a nice way to wrap yourself up on cold evenings.
Enterlac style rug
According to the execution scheme, knitting rugs in the enterlak style is similar to making a flat cloth of blankets or bedspreads. The secret is only that the rug in the finished form has a rounded shape. How to achieve this?
For example, for a small rug, you can cast on just 10 stitches and knit 5 elongated leaves from threads of different colors. In this case, we will determine the size of the leaf ourselves, and the shape does not necessarily have to be correct - relief bevels in triangles look very original.
It is quite effective if you alternate the threads by color not in rows, but by leaves: knit each new leaf in a different color.
We close each leaf completely and break the thread. When the last leaf is ready, you need to connect them in a circle. We get a neat rug with knitting needles using the enterlak technique, which is appropriate to place near a child's crib or in other places.
Experienced knitters will immediately conclude that knitting in the enterlak style is technically simple. After all, there are no intricate patterns, yarns and other moments - simple knitting from front/back loops.
The secret is only in carefully counting the number of loops when knitting the leaves. Although in the process of work you will not have to count - subsequent actions will be visible from the knitting pattern.
