A mirror is a mysterious object. It seems to read thoughts and evaluate actions. Mystical properties are attributed to it. It is not recommended to look at it when in a bad mood or during illness.

There are many beliefs about an astral spirit sitting in a mirror, which sucks positive energy out of a person. But in this article we will tell you not about superstitions, but about how attach a mirror.

What is a mirror
In production, sheet glass is used, obtained from a mixture of sand, soda, limestone, and other materials. They must contain a minimum amount of iron salts, which give the glass unnecessary shades.
The initial mass is boiled, fired, formed into a sheet, polished, cut with diamond rollers. A metal coating is applied to make the surface reflect light, and it is protected with varnish.
When choosing a finished product, take into account the thickness of the glass, the quality of the coating on the back side - uniformity, absence of stains, other defects. Consider the degree of distortion of the image - it happens that the mirror "looks fat" or "slims" - choose according to your taste.
Fastening
It should be reliable, as unnoticeable as possible, simple, and minimally disruptive to the wall finish. Mirrors are mounted on walls in the following ways:
- WITHwith cobs that have through fasteners, supporting from below and on the sides;
- Phanging by means of two screws, threads with gluing of the backing (like a panel);
- Nby gluing on the backing;
- Pusing glue, liquid nails;
- INgluing together with ceramic tiles;
- Chthrough the holes of the product, by other means.
On a brick base
For installation using glue, prepare the surface - if necessary, remove the wallpaper, carefully level with a primer, then sand. Be sure to clean and wipe with an alcohol solution.
Special glue, intended for glass with amalgam coating, is used according to the instructions. It is applied to the surface not as a solid mass, but in parallel stripes at equal intervals or in "fat" drops in a checkerboard pattern.
If this method is chosen when deciding how to attach a mirror, you need to remember that you will not be able to remove it or rehang it. This is the last place where it will "stay" - then you can only break it or remove it.
When using thick double-sided tape, the surface is prepared. It is pasted on the back side of the glass along the perimeter and surface in vertical or horizontal stripes with a step of 5-7 cm. After that, the protective film is removed from it, and it is pressed into place.
The composition of liquid nails allows you to reliably hang a mirror, while not spoiling the decorative surface of the installation site. In terms of strength, this construction adhesive is significantly superior to PVA glue, and some modifications are equivalent to the characteristics of dowels.
Important! Using tape, you can install a product only up to 1 m² in area; anything larger may simply fall off later.
Important! Despite the guaranteed strength of adhesive materials, it is better to use a combination of two methods when working.
Using hardware, you usually make fastenings for a mirror that has ready-made holes. To do this, you need to drill holes in the wall with the diameter of the dowel used, 5 mm longer than the length of the screw you plan to use. After drilling, clean them from dust, install the dowels, put the product on, and screw the screws in one by one. Be sure to cover them with decorative heads.
On the tiled surface
A practical option is to install the mirror on top of the tiles using tape or glue. You can also remove the tiles in the area where the product is supposed to be placed and glue it in.
Not a bad option - hang a mirror, using hardware, making several holes in the partition. To do this, you need to prepare a drill, a screwdriver, special drills for tiles, fastening brackets, plastic dowels with screws.
There are two ways to proceed:
- INmake holes in the wall and the product, secure it with screws, having first installed dowels and special rubber gaskets;
- Ppurchase and install original mirror fastenings in the form of brackets that are fixed to the wall and support the product.
On plasterboard
Drywall is not the most durable finishing material, it cracks and crumbles. The technology for attaching a mirror to the wall is determined by its weight. If it is less than 10 kg, liquid nails or double-sided tape are used.
To install various accessories on such a base, special dowels are used - "butterflies", which can withstand up to 10 kg. They are installed in pre-prepared holes (according to their number in the product).
For products that do not have drillings, stores offer special fasteners for mirrors when mounting to a wall, including brackets, profiles, and fasteners.
Installation works
You can use the services of a workshop that has the appropriate equipment. When making it yourself, use a drill or diamond drill.
First, degrease the surface with alcohol. The hole is made at a distance of at least 30 mm from the edge. The tool is oriented perpendicular to the plane. Drilling is performed starting at low speed, then at medium speed.
It is practical to make a rim of plasticine around the drilling area and pour water. The finished holes are cleaned with sandpaper.
Each has its own characteristics, the choice is made taking into account:
- Prooms (bathroom, living room, hallway - different levels of humidity and air movement speed);
- TOconstruction (presence of frame, base, shelf, hangers);
- Rdimensions and weight;
- Npresence of holes;
- Mroom wall material;
- Dthe possibility of drilling with damage to the finish;
- WITHfalsity of eliminating defects after removing the product.
How to hang a mirror on a wall and not to damage it - the most important issue for a bathroom, where every hole can spoil an expensive finish, but of little importance for a concrete, brick or plasterboard partition, on which traces of drilling are easily and imperceptibly removed.
If the product has holes, it is attached to the plasterboard using a butterfly-type device; when hanging on a brick wall, a regular dowel is used.In the absence of drilling, glue or tape mounting and reliable special fasteners such as staples are equally applicable.
