The sun mirror has not lost its decorative function among its analogues, despite the fact that this design was popular in the fifteenth century. This is an excellent decoration for the interior in the Baroque, eclectic or classical style. But it is difficult to find a suitable example among the factory representatives, because most people are afraid to combine original decorative items with the general environment, and therefore types with simple, uncomplicated frames are in demand. If you manage to find a decent product, then only for a high price. It is easier to make a sun mirror with your own hands. Firstly, it will be a unique, inimitable thing that will decorate the interior of your living room or bedroom. Secondly, it will cost several times less.

We decide on the design and construction
Here, a person is limited only by his own imagination and the availability of the necessary material. There are countless frame options. You can make it from wooden or plastic spoons, old magazines rolled into a tube, bamboo skewers for barbecue, metal rods, branches and other objects that can be easily transformed into something resembling sunbeams. Since the mirror has more of a decorative function, you should choose a small diameter.
The easiest way to make it is with bamboo sticks, because this option does not require special skills and abilities. And in terms of price, this type will be the most attractive.
Necessary materials
To make a mirror with your own hands, we need the following materials:
- thick cardboard;
- bamboo sticks, 100 pieces, about 30 cm long;
- round mirror;
- spray paint;
- glue for glue gun;
- brass ring (sold at a specialty craft store);
- a fastening by which the finished product will be suspended.
Necessary tools
In the process of work we will need;
- glue gun;
- scissors;
- small hacksaw;
- sandpaper;
- compass;
- ruler;
- pencil.
Manufacturing process: step-by-step instructions
Step 1. Prepare the stencil
We cut out a sheet of paper in a shape that completely matches the mirror. It should be a circle. We find the center and draw straight lines from it to the edge. As a result, we form 24 sections of equal size. Inside the large circle, we draw another small one, retreating from the edge by 2.5 or 3 cm. We will lay out the rays along the straight lines drawn.
The stencil is ready. All that remains is to transfer the finished drawing onto cardboard. Cut out another circle of the same size from it.
Step 2: Prepare the bamboo sticks
We divide the set of sticks into 4 piles. Each has 24 pieces. Then they will be used to create rays.
We leave the first group of sticks-rays of the original size and put them aside. We shorten the second group by 7 cm. We cut the third group by 10 cm. And the fourth by 13 cm.
It is necessary to saw off the sharp edges of all the sticks and polish them with sandpaper.
Step 3. Glue the rays
We glue the longest rays from the center of the circle according to the prepared drawing. It is more convenient and faster to use a glue gun. Then we take the second set of shortened sticks and glue them not from the center of the circle, but from the edge of the second, inner circle. We work similarly with the third and fourth stacks.
Step 4: Before gluing the missing elements, you need to paint the rays
In this master class, gold paint was used. After painting, wait the required amount of time for complete drying.
Step 5. Assembling the finished product
Glue the mirror on top of the finished beams so that its edges completely match the cardboard blank. After that, you can glue the brass ring. Important advice: it is better if the diameter of the ring is slightly larger than the diameter of the mirror. Then the work will be more accurate.
We glue the fastener to the back of the finished product.
Step 6. Decorating
It is appropriate to place such an art piece in a room in the Baroque or Art Nouveau style. It is desirable that the wall be monochromatic or with an inconspicuous, small pattern. Today, a mirror performs both its usual function and a decorative one. Therefore, an excellent option would be to hang it in a small, bright room to visually expand the space. Other decorations in the form of candles in metal candlesticks, antique vases, etc. can serve as a complement to it in the interior.
So, using this master class as an example, you have seen that creating a mirror with your own hands is not difficult. Today, designers have come up with many ideas for decorating the frame of the product. After all, this is one of the ways to add sophistication to the interior and set the right atmosphere.
